Default Super newb question ( I know you guys like those)

Just bought a K&N replacement filter for my 06. Went outside and popped it in no problem.

I started reading all these threads about in-cabin air filters(I know this is completely different) needing to be faced the proper way as to not restrict air flow and it got me thinking....

Is there a proper direction to put the k&n intake replacement filter? I put mine in with the extending ribbed side facing down. I didn't even think about it, just opened up the box, took out the old one, put the new one in.

So my question is, is the side where the ribbed area extends out supposed to face up or down?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the newbness, I am very NOT mechanically inclined

Not trying to cause any problems. I just need some help with this. Maybe a mod could move this to a more relevant location? Thanks in advance!

Well, you did it right. Yes, there is an inside and outside. With the ribs DOWN, the little "fingers" have more surface area to catch contaminents than if you were to reverse it. If this is a rechargable filter, I think you'd also want to be cleaning the OUTSIDE of the filter, as opposed to the INSIDE if it were reversed. Mods could move it, or just let it die.
