John,
You had mentioned that a few people you knew were considering a S/C installation and you wanted to know if we would do the job for the same price that you paid.
The answer is yes, we will. That means we can do the job for $3890.00. That includes tax, oil and coolant. Full synthetic oil is extra, and if you need an oil filter, thats extra. Otherwise, your price is their price.

All I can say is, for anyone who has purchased the kit or is going to.... Tom does an awesome job. I looked at a bunch of places who were selling the kits... I found his shop to be the cheapest on the price of the kit. It was darn close to cost. I cannot imagine they are making any money on the kit.

As far as the install.... the service was spot on... no delays... but lots of respect for me as a customer. They might not be the cheapest that I have hear quoted.... but they are by no means the most expensive... (heard $1,200 quoted from one place and I do not think that was with tax!) The old saying, "you get what you pay for" is true here. Tom knows his stuff. They are absolutely reliable. I'd pay it again in a heart beat...

Yeah, $1040 is VERY high. Personally looking at it and going by non-dealer labor rates I would say it approx a $400 job at most, I would expect no more than $600 at a dealer. Even at $80 per hour and figuring on $50 in fluids and misc, that price above is 12.5 hours!! I could remove, tear down and be nearly ready to drop the engine back in the car in 12.5 hours!

I mean absolutely no offense here, but are you or the folks you go to for the install .... are you going to stand behind the install and product for 5-years / 60,000 miles? Ask the folks who install it... they will flat out laugh.

Besides, non-dealer rates are usually higher in my area. I called around and believe me... the cheapest I was quoted was $595... and since they were not a "qualified Toyota" tech, I would have reduced the warranty to 12mnth.

I look at the cost of the whole deal....

Bottom line: my SC at Thompson was essentially $59/wph and is warrantied. Most EVERYONE I know who does installs, mods their rides, or other enthusiasts are in awe of the deal I got.

It's a matter of choice. I do not think it is too much...

Your factory warranty will not be lost automatically if you have it installed elsewhere , only the sc warranty itself. They would have to prove that it was a faulty install that caused the issue with the rest of the engine before refusing to warranty anything. And I am sorry, but I grew up in and around a shop, working there at times as well (family owned). to this day one of the BIG sources of business for them is fixing work that dealerships did. Not to mention the people that were given info that even a non technical person knew was BS and ended up chosing a good private shop instead. I am in no way saying all dealerships are bad, but I would MUCH rather trust my car to a good private shop anyday if I wasnt going to do my own.

Next, DEALERS are installing the SC for around $600, so over $1000 is HIGH for even dealer rates.

And the GOOD shops out there back their work regardless. If something they did created an issue they would cover it. The only part there is you have to find one you trust.

When it first came out my dealer was estimating $2900 for the SC and $3500 with install.

Thompson did the install for 795 so that is not too much more than 600 imo. Also the 1000 was including tax which is going to vary by state.... 4-8%...

I was not referring to the car warranty, but to that of the SC. installed by someone other than Toyota... you get 12 months. Thats it. Toyota installs it? You're covered for 5years!

Huge difference.

Well worth $195.

Including tax, I paid about $575 for the install at Bob Massie in White Oak. Just picked it up today around 5pm....I am VERY happy.

This thing is even BIGGER in person! The pictures just don't do it justice.

That sounds more like a reasonable amount for dealer prices.

Enjoy the new SC!

No, that would be more like 26% tax. 8% tax would have brought the total to about $860 if the base was $795. If you pay 8% where you are from, then they charged you close to $960 bucks before tax. Taking out for oil (which they say synthetic, nor a filter is included) you are proabably paying around $920 for labor alone.

I am not trying to bust your b@lls or bash you at all. I am glad you are happy and enjoying the sc. But given what everyone else is charging. people shouldnt get the idea that paying over $900 for this type of install is a "good" price.

its a good thing, then... that i paid only $795.

I paid $3,850 for the SC, install and tax.... I cannot imagine most people are paying too much less (if at all) for their sc. That is all I am saying... Plus they did a great job.

I'm installing the boost gauge this weekend.

Got my ABS plastic ready...I'm going to attempt to fabricate a bracket that makes it look like a professional mounting ...if I don't like it I can always get a pod

Congrats dude! Are you gonna go to Zelienople or Clarion for the flashlight drags?
Probably not. That is a loooooooooong drive, plus I am not so sure I want to drag it. I used to do that with the cav, but I am thinking I dont want to abuse this car. I may go to the Pittsburgh Raceway Park this summer once. That track dirt is too damn hard to remove from the paint

I think I need to step in and clarify a few things and correct an error that I made. First off, to install YOUR supercharger, that is, one you supplied, with tax, 4qts oil and Toyota Super Long Life factory coolant is $869.00. When I said $1040, I just took the total that John paid and subtracted $2850, the price he paid for his SC. I forgot to take out the tax on $2850 which is $171, bringing the install price including oil, coolant, tax etc to $869.00.
Now, you may think that is too much, a rip off, or, like John, you might be happy with that price. I don't set the pricing, I just do the work. John was charged 8 hours labor for his install. In our area, that is the going labor time and labor rate. In your neck of the woods, the labor rate may be different, I don't know. What I do know, is that to say that it's too much money is unjustified. I'm not sure what business you are in, or what kind of service you provide, but would it be fair to assume that if I could find your product or service cheaper that it would be better than what you are providing? I don't think so.

I've looked over some of the photos that have been posted of peoples S/C installations. Some good, some not so good. I've seen misrouted wires, parts installed poorly or incorrectly, a few minor parts missing etc, etc. Given a choice, do you think these people would have paid a little more to get a better job? It's not always about the price, sometimes it's about the quality. And in our shop, $869.00 gets you top quality. The devil is in the details my friends, it's what separates the mechanics from the technicians.

I would, but I sold the car and got a WRX. Makes my tC feel slow. Turbo is nice, but the smooth delivery of the supercharger was a huge plus.
