SuperCharger Question
I was just thinking about getting the supercharger that scion privdes, any that does have the supercharger from then can u tell me what ur pushin how much WHP, and HP gain to get from it and has anyone dynoed it?
How do you figure? its under warranty and thats on a stock setup - you get meth injection, a different pully, and a ecu mgmt which will be another $1,500 but .... w/ that total cost thats the cost of a turbo.
well put it this way - you get the s/c and lets say you will be exactly 200whp (lets just say). The added pully will void the warranty but if you want to do that after the warranty then u will be ok. Then the pully is 20whp right there. And if u get meth injection you can cool things down for a larger pully and get management to get you prob 20horse over what you can put out w/o it. So yes - if you do things right you should have around 250whp when you are done. Thats 110whp over stock. First and second gear will pretty much be not there when u are done cause will rip through them.
Here are some facts for you guys
My initial dyno with 0 mods = 137 whp
My latest dyno with the supercharger, NST pulley and a Megan header / s-pipe ran 231 wheel hp. That is a 94whp gain.
Take away the pulley and header and I am confident she would be putting down 200whp which is still a 63whp gain under warranty!
I paid $2950 for my sc and installed it myself. If I did 0 modifications to the car, that puts me at a doller per whp ratio of $14.75 dollers per whp gained! Also the TRD sc also provides injectors and a safe engine tune! The best part is the TRD kit lays these numbers down WITHOUT eliminating the cat in the header! And it lays them down without an intake!
Now add into the mix a $100 NST pulley and the $300 I spent on the megan header and s-pipe... with those gaines I am at a $14.50 per whp gain.
Now lets look at say.... the turbonetics kit that is out. It is a VERY nice kit and looks HOT! But do the math at the 240 whp people are netting and your at $19.79 per whp!
ZPI's stage 1 comes in at $17.47 per whp. The stage 0 is a steal of a bargain at $11.71 per whp gain but man... no engine management..? Sorry, would not even bother with that.
Now here is the funny part! You guys will spend $31.25 per whp gain on an intake! or even more on an exhaust!
If ya look at the bare numbers... the TRD kit is really a great value! Especially if you look at the doller per whp ratio.

As far as someone said but you have to pay $150 a year for premium gas. If you cant afford $150 a year, then forced induction probably isnt affordable either.

I do not get the full warranty on the sc "only 12K miles / 12 months". But the rest of the cars powertrane warranty remains the same. Install was not hard at all for me, just time consuming. Took me about 6 hours and 50 minutes. 45 minutes of it was spent cussing the oil pan that would not budge for any reason until MR prybar told it different. But along the same note, I have a very nice shop setup with power tools etc and about every hand tool you could imagine. If you have a really good tool selection the process is not hard at all.
I did my install on friday. All in all it took me just over 6 hrs. i would have had it done sooner however I had to wait for the FIPG to come in and then wait for it to adhere. For the price if you want to stay 50 state legal and have a warranty, even without buying the pulley it is still fun. I personally wanted to get the zpi stage 1 but when I priced it out with everything else I would have to buy, it just wasn't as cost effective. I was looking at about 6k total to get everything necessary for it to run with no issues.
