I wouldn't drive too far if I were you, cause once the bearings seize up you will not be able to start up the car and you'll have to have towed to where ever you're going to do the repair at, I wouldn't even drive it anymore if I were you.

i drove around around on my 2nd one for a while with it sounding like a midget under the hood and it never really seized up. just dont make long road trips and make sure u blow out the screen to ur oil inlet hose. kik or someone made a diy on it. not hard to do and should be done after every oil change.

Isn't that suppose to be done every couple thousand miles?, not every oil change? if you find that DIY please post it, thank you.

unfortunetly that sound is usually bearing spinning the metal on the shaft, instead of just spinning the metal on the housing. You should take a look, it shouldn't take very long. The longer you wait the more messed up it will get.

I went through one before I fixed it, mine lasted 7 months and 8,000 miles

Bought my car in May 2005 and I'm still on my first supercharger since November 2005. I drive my car daily and have about 90k miles on the ODO. The seals and bearings were replaced last year (wasn't really necessary) and replaced the shaft. The original shaft still looks brand new. Only problem I have is the Timken replacement shaft seal is useless after a few months. It became very hard, not pliable at all, and started leaking oil onto the heat shield.

I've gone through one supercharger... not due to bearing or shaft failer. I had over 65,000 miles on it when I found one of the brackets on the pulley side had cracked. Upon removal of the supercharger, I also discovered that the transmission mounting bracket was also broken. Now I believe I had the first gen trasmission mounting bracket... so I'm pretty sure TRD has a replacement part for it. However, I don't think they have a replacement part for the bracket that broke on the pulley side.

I think that the bracket on the pulley side cracked because of the transmission mounting bracket that was probably broken for a while which place more stress on the other brackets.

So a heads up to 05-06 s/c owners... check your (1st gen) transmission mounting bracket regularly for cracks... if you do find that it's cracked, replace it with the revised transmission bracket. I'm not saying that it'll prevent the bracket on the pulley side from breaking... but I think this may have been my issue.

I will post pics of my old supercharger with the broken brackets when I get a chance...

Oh... and as for cleaning out the screen on the oil inlet to the supercharger.. although the inlet is basically like a needle size hole for the oil to go through and appears like it could clog easily... I am starting to think that this is not neccesary... if you want to be careful, I would probably only do it every 15,000 miles.

I no longer have my s/cer, but it ran strong till the day i sold it. Never had one issue. i think i had 20k on it. I cant believe people are on their fourth. i would of been done after two.lol
btw it was fully modded the whole time. including fmic,9.5 pulley and bov which people said screwed it up faster.

yup - your bearing is shot - get a cheap rental, take the charger out, get the new bearings put in, and reinstall.

How will i know when my bearings are messed up? I hear all this talk of replacement superchargers, how will I ever know if I need a new one before my warranty expires? I've had mine like two years now. I mean it sounds loud, it's got that rattling thing going on but it's always had that, I thought that was supposed to be normal. What will it sound like if the bearings go and what do I do to fix it?

^ there is a gear noise which is normal for that kind of supercharger. You will know its messed up because the noise will be VERY loud and will get louder the faster it spins. I know what you hear and that normal. It will be a winding/metalish noise when messed up because of a spun bearning.
