Default tC Supercharger making noise when idle?

I recently had a s/c installed into my 05 scion tC. A few days ago I heard a noise comming from the blower. It seems like it happens only at idle (or i just cant hear it any other time) and it sounds like a bearing problem ... but if its only at idle its not correct?

Anybody in this situation? I have only had my s/c for two weeks now.

The couple that I've heard at idle do have a loud whine to them.

is it a rattling sound at idle?

If so this is normal. It is even mentioned in the literature.

mine is a pretty loud rattling noise..sounds like the supercharger is vibrating against another metal object in the engine bay. it sounds like its either coming from within the blower or underneath it somewhere. is that normal?

i dunno - you might actually be talking about that rattle sound that I am having. Its only at idle though. So like everybody has said .....it must be normal.

If you read the literature that comes with the S/C there is a slight Clattering noise that you will hear at idle, it should disappear at about 400-500 rpm over idle. Also, under boost conditions, you may hear a muffled whine noise. This noise should be inaudible at idle.

This is a paraphrase form the paper that comes with the S/C

05-RS1 , has yours gotten any louder since yesterday? Any other noticeable noises coming from it.

brett, i havent noticed it getting any louder yet. i've only put about 50 miles on it. the only thing i've noticed today was the loud rattling noise coming from the blower. but since everyone is sayin its normal then i guess so. it sounds like its only during idle but i dunno if its rattling while driving because i cant really hear it over the engine and road noise.

Could you post sound clips of the noise? This might help us determine if the noise is normal or not. If needed, I could record and post a sound clip under my hood for comparison.

they do have a "rattle/clatter" sound at idle; was explained as normal. Ours has made the same sound, no more no less, for about 10k+ now...

has anyone tried raising the idle in their tC to see if that helps the problem any? Some S/C's are finnicky about certain RPM ranges

to be honest, this is the first sc i've been around since the old roots style blowers in the 70's/80's.... so if our tech says it's normal when we have it in for the routine stuff; i beleive it. And as we have put some decent miles on the unit with no probs, that also leads me to agree it's normal. And it does seem to go away when you pull the r's a bit higher then idle, like it's supposed to. Don't know if that helps or not... if nothing else, give it a few miles ( it is under warranty anyways ) and if you are unsure have it checked out.

No, Toyota recommended is still 5w30 but you could probably ask for it if you get your oil changed at the dealer. I personally changed my own last time with mobil 1 synthetic 10w30

Mine sounds like it is falling apart as well. Really scares me, but everyone (and the book) says its normal. So I just live with it.
