Turbo question (new to the forum)
I have been reading threads on here for about 5-6 months. I'm going to buy a turbo kit with an intercooler. I have an automatic transmistion, this is a dumb question do I need to modify my ECU? Also do yous guys have any suggestions for turbo kits that I can buy on a budget of 2k. One more thing I also like to know some good places that can install the kit for me on south jersey. Thanks alot for your help.
1. you can't modify the ecu, you need a piggyback to tune it.
2. you can't get a good kit for 2 k, but if you really know your poop, you can put a kit together yourself if you know how to make it.
3. don't boost on a budget, especially if you don't know what the hell you are doing. hit the books, if you have been reading threads for 5-6 months, and your asking these kinda questions, your reading comprehension skills must be small to non-existant.

I'm gonna move this to the tC F/I section... I assume you have a tC...
Also, for $2k, just keep saving. A basic kit like the one turbotoyotas has, is still out of your price range... plus you're not figuring costs for labor on install, maintenance, tuning, and premium gas...
If you want to go F/I for $2k'ish, and you have an '05-06, get the supercharger.

lol, we kinda just talked about this with me, the only problem is I was hoping for $3500 and that still isnt enough to do it right. I expect in reality for my kit to be installed for $5000.
Read, read, read about it on forums and in books before you buy anything. I've been looking at going turbo for over a year, and even though I have the money I still might not do it.
You will need..
turbo kit (cheapest is turbo toyotas backyard brawler kit for $2000, but if you want an intercooler the cheapest is the turbo toyota simple series $2400)
engine/fuel management/injectors ($800)
install and tune ($800) (I recommend learning and doing the install yourself because when something goes wrong you can fix it, other wise add on a few more thousands to your local turbo shop)
gauges to monitor air/fuel, temps, boost ($300 for good ones)
clutch to handle the extra power ($400 plus $300 install)
premium gas and synthetic oil (extra $200 per year)
And this is still leaving out a lot of options. It really is a lot more than you think it is and as the saying goes "whatever you think is the price for goign turbo, take it and double it", or in your case triple it.
And then dont forget that if you add all that power you might want to consider better brakes, suspension. For me I am debating whether it is worth it for this car. I'm looking for just adding the same gains as you, but I just dont see it being worth it.
This is not too discourage you. Just read up any information you can get. There's plenty of it and after a while you'll be able to make your own decisions.
And good luck asking questions. This is a pretty nice forum, but others can get pretty heated. Dont worry about what people say as we all can learn a lot more about this stuff..

thnks alot for the tips it's been a great help on pointing me on the right direction, thru a few connections at my work I managed to find a trd turbo charger for about $2,180.00 and t3 turbo charger kit with all the pipes, intercooler bov etc. However I'm being careful about it since they sound too good to be true. The last thing I want is to get coned out of my money
