Default turbo sizing

ok so i wasnt really sure how to search for this but i am curious to the power and reliability side of things wheather its better to get a larger turbo and run less boost, or a small turbo running more boost? im looking to get around 300whp and right now im gunning an evo 3 16g. and to me it feels incredibly small. would it be wise to just invest in a larger turbo and keep my 6lb wg spring? if so what would be a good size turbo?.
or on the other hand should i just crank the boost up to 10 or somewhere around there? opinions appreciated. thanks!

if all you want is 300whp then just keep the 16g at 10-12 psi. no need to change anything.

If you want power for a DD, a smaller turbo is probably better because you'll see boost across more of the powerband.

+1 with what has been said. Just put it on 10lbs and enjoy.

ok well on top of that what if its an ebay turbo that i have been running for close to 30k miles on it and its starting to get some horizontal shaft play. and if im going to possibly either getting a new turbo or a rebuild. which one do you think would be a better idea, larger turbo, new 16g (because mines ebay lolz) or just rebuild haha. thanks :D

In my opinion, I wouldn’t rebuild your turbo, even if you use the best bearings possible how long will the rest of it hold up. If its Ebay then more than likely it’s a made in China turbo and metal used will more than likely fail but who knows. Try finding a Garrett turbo that will bolt on to your manifold.

i mean either way i think its pretty decent. i mean its had shaft play since i got it used over a year ago. and ive run it for close to 30k..and there was another owner haha, so for ebay im really suprised. but also there isnt any chips or anything it seems to be in great sape aside from the seals going bad.

and if anyone knows of any garrett turbos that bolt onto a td05 mitsu flange or if i could put the exhaust housing of a td05 on a garret? not sure if it works like that but its worth a try and asking about it lol

and another thing is that my turbo spools possibly too quick for me. lol it starts spooling on the highway at around 78-80. and its quite annoying. haha

ebay turbo's are are a 50/50 shot really. some people have good luck with them, and others dont.

i ran a precision sc3431 on one of my setups, bought it for 400 lol, new costs around 800. its a good midsized turbo, spooled up quick and hit hard all the way til redline. look for one on ebay.
