Default Turbo Woes

Ok heres the rundown.

I just bought a turbonetics kit for my tc.

Ok sweet it comes with a T3/T04 E-50 Ball bearing turbo.
Aswome however it wont do the trick of getting me to my 300 whp goals.
So i need a slightly bigger turbo. 57 trim ball bearing, GP 30 or somthing. Yeah i dunno thats what my tuner said, i know i know its because i live at high alititude. Well does anyone have any solutions like does anyone know of any companys that exchange turbos or someone that needs a T3/T04 E-50 Ball bearing turbo, im willing to sell mine.

Thanks guys!

David huh? LOL, anyway, I made 259WHP and 287WTQ at 8 lbs with a ITS T04E-60 .63 A/R turbo. What wastegate spring are you using? You need 12 psi on that turbo to get to 300WHP if lucky. Plus, get a 3" exhaust, that will give you more power also.

you need a tubular manifold to get great numbers at low psi. i made 315whp on 10 psi with a precision 3431RE turbo, which is basically a t3/t4 50 trim. prescision turbo website has all the specs. full boost at under 3500 rpms, i think around 3200, its been a month and a half since ive been without turbo due to rebuild.

Are you serious???

The T04E 50 trim will get you 300whp easy.

I got 272whp at 9psi with the UNICHIP... now I'm tuning my F/IC and It'll be more - assuming my engine is still okay.

Your turbo is fine - quit wasting money on a larger turbo and invest it in a good tuner.

also, the 300 hp that the kit advertises is BHP really, not WHP. it is roughly 250-260 whp.

yes yes - people should understand that.

but that doesn't mean the T04E 50 trim can't get you 300whp.

Yamaha's brother has a Tnetics kit and makes 310whp at 10 psi using a standalone.

Uhh yeah ok i figured as much that the kit advertises hp to the crank not to the wheel, however i do live at higher altitude i live in colorado springs. I think what tcdude said sounds more correct. Thanks fellas this has been fairly enlightening.

Alot of the 'numbers' depends on what kind of dyno you used. You may be on a more conservative dyno.

I dynoed 254 whp and 267 wtq on Ptuing's dyno, which has a very conservative reading compared to other dynos. Compared to other people's dyno numbers, it seems on the lower side, but that doesn't mean it's not fast (I just spin the wheels in first and second when I get on it).

I wouldn't get to hung up on the numbers, but rather focus on how it feels. Does it have enough power to keep you happy?

If it does, no action required. If it doesn't take a look into some of the options above. I would highly recommend PTuning's turbo back exhaust. Also, in addition to some of the above, you might want to take a look into water meth. I think Ptuning sells a kit for that as well.

The turbo you have will get you the power you want.

There is no need to spend more money and buy a bigger turbo.

All your doing is trading a larger amount of airflow at less psi by going bigger.

Just start turning up the boost in small increments.

Post all your details and we(the community) can help you out and at the same time save you some money.

What are you making now?
What psi?

Regards-

Todd

I already tried giving that advice, Todd.. unfortunately my advice doesn't accomodate the need for a larger e-peen so therefore the advice was rejected.

How are things going anyhow, Todd?

Nothing has been installed yet and nothing has been tuned. All my questions are based off what my tuner believes may need to be done to acquire 300 whp. Im still in Iraq right now and have to wait till i get back but i wanted to do some research into what needs to be done so as to not waste time and money. Ive been getting alot of different answers.

Yes as for a different tuner, i live in co my options are pretty limited and seems these tuners are so picky about brands, i even had one tell me i needed to build my engine before making 300 whp he said i couldnt do it on stock internals at all. So you see i dont realy have too many options. Im new to this $hit and dont realy know who to believe or what to ask realy.

Some guy runs 375WHP stock engine. Like we talked about, sell the Turbonetics kit and get a Dezod one. Because Dezod is here all the time helping us and their customer service is great. Turbonetics discontinued their kits I think, so obviously, there is a reason for it.

What kind of advice is that? You guys (members of this board) are so quick to tell each other to spend more of each others money its not even funny.

Memback already has a kit, there is no reason to sell it to by someone else's.

Try actually helping each other out.

Even if he had another companies turbo kit, it doesn't change his problems.

1. He is dealing with Tuners that obviously have no clue.

Memback-

Just some advice based on what you have posted.

Tuner #1 : The one that told you to change turbo: Stay far away from. He obviously is not that familiar with turbos.

Tuner #2: The one that said you need to build your motor to make 300whp. He has no clue about the TC and is looking for more room for error= built motor. Stay even farther away from this one.

You do have more options in Colorado. Just keep doing what your doing. Ask questions. Never be affraid to ask them as many times as it takes for you to feel comfortable with the answer.

And if you talk to any tuner, and you tell him your goal is "x" amount of power a good answer will be " I do not tune for power, but for driveability and reliablity" we will see what your car makes and go from there. No reputable tuner will ever guarantee a power number.

Good luck and keep posting.

Regards-

Todd
