Default Turbonetics Kit problem, any ideas?

So I'm having some CEL problems with my turbonetics kit. I'm wondering if anyone else has had these problems, or could help me out with some possible solutions. As of right now the CEL is being thrown, and the sensor is reading misfire in all four pistons. What could be causing this?

The theory I've heard so far is a fouled up O2 sensor, causing the engine to adjust, and throw everything out of whack. Is it possible that this is the case, or is it likely something worse? Has anyone with a turbo had this CEL come up before, and if you did what was the problem?

Please don't jack this thread, or turn it into a one kit v. another kit thread, I'm simply looking to try to find some answers to my car problems. Thanks to whoever replies.

What is the exact code you are throwing. Where did you install the O2 extender Turbonetics sent? Did you switch plugs when you installed the kit? Are you sure the injectors are wired to the right locations? Are all your coil packs seated properly?

I didn't do the install work itself, so I'm just going by what I've been told, but it's throwing a code for random cylinder misfire, in all four pistons. Everything else is set, except for the changing of the spark plugs. With it throwing the code, the idle is all messed up, and it's running super rich, but when the computer is reset, before the light comes back on, it's running really good, and the idle is fine.

Sounds like a vacuum leak... do you have a boost gauge? what does it read at idle?

What year is your tC? 06 by chance?

I am doing a small survey of this problem. Each kit manufacturer: ZPI, Turbonetics and us have each had customers with this exact issue.

use to have the same problem, idle were going wack too. engine stalled everytime when driven hard. still stall sometime, hope new tune will cure this problem.

make sure the O2 extender is install on the s-pipe. its very hard to have a vaccum leak with this setup. this engine has very little vaccum line. if your O2 extender is install correctly then your problem is probably a bad Unichip.

Don't want to jack your thread, but anyone out there having the same exhaust leak as me? The exhaust leak is between the downpipe and the turbo, upper portion. retorqued all bolts, but leak come back after a day or two of driving.

We have 06 no problems i am sure it is a tune issue. The car is more than likely overly rich fouling the plugs by the end of a hard run and thus causing the misfire.

What are the plugs gapped at? I am sure that the unichip/turbonetics tune is very conservative thus leaving driveability issues in the name of safety. Get a vehicle specific tune would be a good start for more power and better driveability.

I had a random misfire once. I changed my plugs to the NGK coppers and gapped them from what the turbonetics install guide says. No problems after words. I have a 2005. Hope this helps.

One other thing. This my not be for misfires but, I also had a problem with the stock wiring on the MAF sensor. It caused for the unichip to dump way to much fuel in the engine. It made the car run rich and I couldn't boost at all. I could only get to 3,000 rpm's and then shift. The car would jump around like a mad man if I tried to go past 3,000. Something to check that's all.

is the o2 extender on the secondary o2 sensor? its common sense, but people have done dumb things and put it on the primary o2 sensor, which would cause the car to run extremely rich

Not sure if this is supposed to be an insult to their tuning or not but I think if you survey all the Turbonetics owners who installed and run the kit with out of box tuning I think you'll find everyone agrees driveability is flawless. The issue lies somewhere outside the tune you so aptly blamed. My vote is to check plug gapping and for boost/vacuum leaks..

Seems to always be the response. I think it lies more in the realm of ignition.

Hey everyone, thanks for all the info. I love that everyone here is so helpful willing to throw out suggestions, you guys are awesome. I'm going pass along all this stuff to the person doing the actual work, have him go through all this stuff, and then hopefully this will be solved. I'll keep everyone posted. And BTW my car is an 05 purchased in November of 2004.
