So my engine is starting to make louder tapping noises. Seems and sounds to be in the top end and sounds like a loud valve tap. I'm wondering if like a valve tune up would take care of it or if I need to look into something else.

 

how many miles u have on your engine ? Is it a stock engine ?
as far as i know valve tap is common on our engines..

 

76k turboed for 7k. It sounds like the normal just louder now.

 

mine got louder aswell after boosting, toyotas tend to have loud valves... i doubt u have any head problems

 

my NA tc is the same way especially with time, toyotas have a loud ___ valvetrain. i have 109k miles too

 

Ever since ive boosted i get valve tap from time to time

 

readjust your valve lash to spec. very simple.

 

How would be the question. Or at least pm me some rough info.

Our valve lash is not really "adjustable". It requires changing out the cam followers. Hondas have an adjustment to theirs.. much easier.

 

That's what I wa thinking is that we had to change buckets right?

 

i wouldnt really worry about it, like SoFlo said, Toyotas are notorious for loud valvetrains

 

just out of curiousness, is the little do-hicky that has a vacuum line to for the EVAP hard mounted somewhere? that thing is like a ticking nightmare if it is mounted to the firewall or somewhere else. just a thought.

 

yeah I'm not gonna worry about it too much now unless it gets worse.

The Valve your talking about is only a clicker after you have been idling for a bit. at least in my case.

 

i took off all my heat shields and the plastic VC cover n crap, mines pretty noticeable but ive always accepted it as normal.
