Default WANTING TO BUILD A CUSTOM TURBO SETUP NEED HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I have been wanting a turbo for a while now. I have heard a lot of people doing their own turbo setup, and it costs about half the price that some companies are charging Turbonetics. Can somebody help me get a parts list going. I know where I can get a e-manage system for $300, but need more help.

There are T3/T4 turbo manifolds on ebay for $450. Is there anywhere else to get them cheaper?

Mikey why didnt you jus ask me. I have a parts list on my computer that I can give you. I also have a rough est. on how much all of them cost. I have done a bunch of research over the past 3 months on this subject and mine is going in the tc in a few weeks. Post your e-mail and I will give you the parts list etc. and my phone #, and I can try to answer any questions you might have.

Cheap isn't always the best way to go, especially for something along the lines of Turbos, as you must know WELL what you are doing in every regard, because just stepping into the world of F/I and attempting to plug and play a fully custom F/I setup will backfire if you don't know your stuff.

I know Turbonetics kits are expensive, but there are other really good options that will save you a lot of money and be very reasonable.

I Obviously prefer ZPI, because of their Staged approach, and Scionlife support, but look into complete options, as you seem to be on the low end of the F/I knowledge curve and that will hurt you in the long run

Take a look at http://www.ATPturbo.com they're working on a few tC parts. They are releasing V-band style downpipes for some of the popular Garrett turbos to match their cast manifold. Which is priced at $349 for a T3 flange.

^ Either way... getting a kit is the way to go when you're at the bottom of the knowledge curve on Forced Injection...

You know we are always a phone call or PM away. We sell all of the parts from our kit individually for just the case. We are here to help.

Obviously it cost like half the price to do it yourself. We have to take into account the MANY HOURS that companys like Dezod and ZPI take to R&D this turbo kits and sell them to us. PLus the profit factor they need to do to stay in the game. You can do all the work yourself and try to fit the parts all together, but still remember, these companys have it like plug and play for us, to make our lives easier. You gotta pay to play. But sometimes, you can just pay less and do it yourself, and go thru some hassles in the proccess.

after recieving about 15 pm's from people wanting this info I figured I would just post it up. if you notice anything I am missing or would like to make suggestions please feel free to add them to my list.

heres what I will be using:

1. t3/to4E turbo. ($250 from a good friend with the hookups)
2. tial 38mm wastegate ($120 from co-worker)
3. hks super sequntial blow off valve. (found on ebay for $80)
4. custom made oil lines. (approx $40)
5. 29X6X3 intercooler ($100 from co-worker)
6. blow off valve flange (ebay $10)
7. turbo manifold inlet flange (ebay $10)
8. down pipe 5 bolt flange (ebay $10)
9. down pipe to spipe flange (ebay $15)
10. waste gate flange (ebay $8.0)
11. custom dump tube.
12. custom exhaust manifold.
13. custom down pipe.
14. turbo oil flanges (ebay $15)
15. RC_engineering 550cc injectors (local shop $400)
16. rc injector clips (local shop $40 will need 4 at 10 each)
17. cutom done intercooler piping (ebay $90)
18. AEM stand alone engine management.
19. nology hot wires.

Exhaust manifold will custom made out of pre bent tubing polished stainless and tig welded. down pipe will be custom made 3 inch same way. keep in mind you need to take into consideration these things if you do not have the ability to weld or access to such equipment. my dad has his own weld shop so I will be doing it there. also don't forget about hardware, this can get expensive real quick. I'm doing my own kit because 1. I want the experiance and paid alot of money for an education in this field so I want to use it, 2. I have access to welders and the skill required, 3. I know alot of turbo guys with great parts just lieing around, 4. I want to show people what I can do.

and I forgot to mention doing some serious local shopping. you can save a lot money buying used parts but make sure you know what to look for when you buy them.

$90 of ebay custom IC piping will not be enough to properly turbocharge your tC. There's more complex bends than a standard 90 and 45 degree. Also, if you just keep cutting up a bunch of pipes and adding silicone couplers, you're adding more risk to pipe blow-out and also adding the cost of GOOD silicone couplers and good t-bolt clamps. Those alone will bring your pipe cost to $200, if you wanted to buy enough to properly connect them. If you're adding that many small amounts of pipes, pay some extra to get them beaded because you're bound to keep blowin charge pipes.

Custom is always fun though. It's what Paul and I did for our kit. After a lot of R&D and testing, we then sold a complete package using what we've learned. That being said, my car is still on the original motor since 10 months ago, with boost ranging from 5psi to 11psi, and temps from sub-zero to over 120 degrees. I'd say we developed it decently.

great tip, however I don't plan using a bunch of silcone couplers. I have a good deal of experiance of with a tig welder and my father owns a weld shop, so those 90 and 45 degree bends will be cut and welded to get the complex bends I need. how much piping I need I wont know untill I get involved.
