Default Warranty

Ok so I finally got everything done and the car is now f/i (turbo]. Only thing is now my alternator has decided to stop working... it is currently covered under the toyota platinum warranty. My only worry is that toyota might try to say I altered the car so the won't warranty the car. I know under the magausom-moss act they should still honor the warranty as I cant see how they could say the turbo affected the alt... Its not a huge issue as modding my car I expect things, but hey if I can get a new alt for free I'd rather that. Also if the dealership doesn't do the alt are there any ho alts that are good? I plan on also doing the big three as well after all of this settles.

Actually excessive heat from a turbo manifold/turbo could cause early failure of the alternator. Not to say this caused it, but it is a possibility and likely what the dealership will state. Its best to have a friend in the service dept that will take care of you and overlook things like that Anything other than a motor replacement or other large overhaul doesnt really require any approval further than the service manager as far I know.

just try it. my toyota dealer has replaced alot of items for me, some out of warranty. electric work, lugs, new wheels and other random items. i never was given any trouble, the law says they need to prove why you caused the problem. i do give them high points on every survey also.

Might as well try, worse they can say is no. And since you're prepared to have it replaced, there shouldn't be any surprises.

lol, heat failure...2005 tc, 90k miles, and a BLAZING HOT TURBO and no alternator failure. Hell, I've been using the OEM battery and I've had the car since 11/2004.

Im still using the original alt and battery also... I was just trying to give an idea of how a dealer may rationalize denying warranty coverage on it.

Ok so toyota called me...now lets see who can work faster from this point (toyota or this forum lol).... They did a test on the battery and the alt both are good. They also did a draw test and it was at 40, they said up to 50 was acceptable, but I'm on the higher side due to my streo system... Now the only thing I can think of it's there is a constant draw that keeps draining it. This started happening a couple days after the turbo install... Has anyone had an issue with the aem fic doing this or the dezod kit? Ptuning maybe you can chime in too.

There actually was an issue with the FIC keeping the throttle body open once the car was off and draining the batt. Only happened to a few folks. Ill try to find the info on it.

thanks I'd appreciate it, bc if that is the case then I'll have to contact Ptuning and get them to put a new one in...

thendawg is right the fic has an issue with automatic tC's in which it leaves the throttle body open which drains the battery (i believe), fixes that ive heard of that work and are necessary are: 1) disconnect the fic each and everytime you turn your car off 2) connect it before you turn your car on.

Dezod had a "fix" for that issue that they were working on a while back you might want to contact Paul see if he still has the fix for the automatic tC's using the fic

thats your issue. it also leaves a sensor on in the transmission. i have a fix for it. i use a relay, PM me for instructions.

in the mean time, just do what sebby said. unplug the FIC Bottom Harness when you shut the car off. you can plug it right back in after you do that. once you unplug it, just for a second, it shuts the tb and tans sensor off. i had to do this for months before i used a relay

thanks guys i had a feeling it had to be something with the fic as i wasn't having this problem at all prior to the fix and turbo going in. I'll hopefully pic the car up from the dealer tomorrow as I doubt they'll figure it out let alone do it for free since the work wasn't done there for the fic
