Default What do you guys think of these? Okada Projects Plasma Direct Ignition Coils

I was talking to my friend the other day and he mentioned this company Okada Projects making Plasma Direct Ignition Coils for our car now, and can help increase hp a lot. Something to definitely look at getting in the future, what do you guys think?

Interesting, im not sure if there was a vehicle that they tested and had some R&D that showed improvement but it would be better if someone can show us that... So far i havent heard of any issues of our coils when it comes to performance, even the high powered ones uses stock

idk about making alot of power with just these but looking at them they seem to have a lower profile head (coil) and would help me make coilpack covers more flush. the stock coil pack connectors stick up so far that i have to make a bend in the middle of the cover in order for them to clear.

theyve been around for a while now but the price tag is a little high in terms of power to price ratio

There is also a (cheaper $199) OBX version of this that I will be getting soon. I have also seen "Ignition Boosters" that change the voltage going to the OEM coils from 12V to 16V which are only about $90.

Have you guys seen any test that shows any downfall or inadequate performance of the oem coils?

I've read of some GO Karts running alcohol use them, cuz it helps ignite more efficiently the harder to ignite fuel. If I remember correctly, some STI owners running E85 were about to or were running it as well, because of the same benefits.

dodaddy im sorry if this comes off harsh but i think your really in over your head as far as tryna fix you car for better performance, as others suggested in the other thread you really should get a retune at a great tuner and then if your not happy with x amount of hp then u can buy things, idk thats just my two cents...

but on this product, i say why not go with somethign thats been used for over 700+ hp cars...which is the factory coils

BTW, WRX's coils seem to be on the weak side. Probably that's why they r looking for some other options out there. Just saying.

maybe you missed the part where i said this is something to definitely look at in getting in the future.. i never said i wanted them lol, i was seeing if anyone has had any experiences with these.

All things aside, I've had 3 coil packs go out with my 1st tuner, so far i've had 2 people tune my car, a 3rd tuner coming up soon, and i know that getting someone to tune my car better might have prevented this from happening.

what are tuning with right now? i heard few people before running the emanage and coils went bad. and thats pretty much the issue ive heard of the oem coils but really its due to modification not coz its bad, also now you have a standalone be careful doing the spark dwell settings.. that will destroy the coils when done wrong

they've been out for a while..... and unless your turning your car in to a straight track car and run it i dont think they're worth the money just for a mod to have.

Since I've worked at Ptuning I have yet to see a tC coil go bad. Stick with OEM, if it means anything the EVO guys upgrade to Denso Scion tC coils.
