Default What Exactly Is A "Conservative" Boost?

I'm about to purchase my first turbo for my 08 tC, and I've been doing a lot of research. After reading the Turbo FAQ, as well as conducting a search, I couldn't find information as to what exactly constitutes a "conservative tune." The FAQ lists ~6 PSI as "mild," but would an 8 PSI boost still constitute as "conservative"?

The reason I ask is because I LOVE my tC. I know adding boost wont yield a 200k motor, but I still want to make my car last as long as I can.

What are your thoughts?

Has long as you don't beat on the car all the time, you'll be fine on 8psi.

you can beat on the car on 8psi with no problem. i beat the hell out of my car for over a year on 13psi. then i started to have problems. so 8psi is not that bad.

So if 8 PSI is generally agreed to be a safe boost, how long would the engine last? The FAQ states that the OP never went below 8.7 PSI, and that his ride has lasted him over 8 months and counting.

What's the largest amount of miles have you experienced (or heard of) someone making on their tC with a conservative boost, as well as religious maintenance?

It all depends on what turbo how much psi on that turbo. And how you maintenance your car and tune ofcorse. So there is no actual time frame to know. All up to you.

Carbon,

Wow - thanks for sharing! If you don't mind me asking, how are your driving habits?

cburglb34,

Thanks for sharing! Would you happen to know about how many miles he had the turbo on?

There wasn't a day that I didn't do a hard pull, plus I Auto-X'd the car...so I'd say I beat it up pretty badly lol.

Tuned to 11.6-12.1 AFR.

I know there are a lot of variables in it, but I'm just trying to find an average. I know that some tC's can blow at 6 PSI in less than 2 months, while other last for years at 12 PSI. I just don't want to see my ride blow prematurely - I love this thing .

Don't cheap out on parts and don't cheap out on the tune. Plain and simple.

Omg... bada**. You're an inspiration, lol. I was hoping I wouldn't have to baby it once a turbo gets installed - I don't like people cutting me off on the freeway .
