Default What I've Been up to... **NOW WITH PICS! (Pg 2)**

Well in Dec. - Christmas night to be exact, my previous built motor met its fate with a large piece of rebar that lodged itself into the motor at 80mph. Since than Ive been rebuilding...

For those of you who dont recall my old setup - I have a thread somewhere - it made 405whp/420wtq on 18 psi. I was going to push it further but never got the chance.

(BTW pics will be added when I get home)

Ive spent the last week assembling the new motor...

Wiseco 9:1 Pistons
BC Rods
ACL Bearings
PTuning Head Studs
BC Valvesprings/Retainers

After 2 days of non-stop work I got the motor in last night and it cranked... and cranked... and cranked... But no fire

Finally after a bit of troubleshooting (like 2 tedious hours), I determined my Eman Ultimate wasnt firing the coil packs. Sooo.... I bypassed the EU for ignition and she fired right up Come to find out, like many others I fell victim to the ignition chip coming off the EU mainboard. I dropped it off this morning at a local electronics repair shop and just heard back that they were able to successfully resolder the ignition IC back to the board.

Hopefully tonight Ill have her fully up and running

Oh yeah here's the rundown of the rest of the setup...

Ebay cast manifold lol
Tial WG
Precision 6262
Custom DP with recirc wastegate
Tial Q BOV
Dezod IC and piping (With custom blow-through setup)
1000cc Injectors
Custom fuel return system with Aeromotive regulator
Walbro 255 (Soon to be upgraded to DW 300)
Custom 3" exhaust (single resonator, no muffler)

Ill post pics, and maybe a vid or two, tonight

Yea I think mines old lol - bought it REALLY cheap - $225 for the main unit lol - so I just got the board back from CPR - $50 later it looks good as new - the guy did a hell of a job resoldering the ignition IC - he also said he glued it down with a non-conductive adhesive to help prevent further issues down the road.

And yes, my previous dyno results were on E85 - never got a chance to log duty cycles on 18psi, however due to some tuning issues I know it definitely still had a bit of headroom left as I would end up with some crazy fuel trims at times and itd run pig rich (10:1 afr - gas scale)

I plan on getting into the 500's on E - whether that will require new injectors or not is still yet to be seen. I know there are Evo guys making in the low 500's on 1000's (E85). On the other hand - I know Ill need the fuel pump to push it much further, esp with the higher fuel pressure Ill more than likely have to run.

throw in another 255 walbro and you might be at mid 400 but i doubt you will pass 500whp.

When you get time can you post on videos of your set up or do you already have videos somewhere?

Gunna take a few pics, maybe vids tonight. I also have some previous pics Ill post when I get home. Also I coated my manifold, downpipe, wastegate (bottom half), and turbo hot side with Techline Cilgen Satin Black. It was fairly inexpensive ($32 for 8oz) and seems like a very durable coating. Well see how it truely holds up after I drive the car for awhile. Alot of other folks rave about it, so we shall see. I think alot of the problems people have with ceramic coatings like this is improper surface prep. I first degreased and power washed all parts, allowed them to dry, than blasted them with 120 grit alox, and finally thoroughly cleaned them with acetone before shooting the coating. If the coating holds up well, it may be a good alternative for the (albeit advanced) DIY'ers

Well got it out tonight, motor runs great, however Ive still got quite a few things to fix. The car fired right up this time with the Ultimate connected for the coils, however im having some strange issues with it...

A) If my computer is connected to the ultimate, the car wont start, if i connect it after its already running itll die, otherwise it runs normal.

B) Ignition timing shows incorrectly (like +- 120deg) and the Ultimate doesnt seem to want to control ignition. I tried setting a rev limit, but it has no affect.

Im starting to dislike the EU lol

**Also FYI - the car is throwing no CEL, and at this point I DO NOT have the cam or crank signal wires connected to the EU, as I understood with the coil pack wiring being interrupted, and the parameter set to obtain rpm from ignition, it wasnt needed, could this be part of the timing/ignition control issue?

SO after playing with it some more, I realized connecting the unit to my notebook, than opening the software, than turning on the car, than connecting, than starting the car seems to work :/ This thing seems really finnicky

I would think that without the cam and crank leads connected to the managment you wouldnt be able to controle timeing very well...atleast this is the case with the aem fic. so take that for a grain of salt

be careful you don't grind down the cam lobes. it seems to be a common problem when running aftermarket valve springs and stock cams.
