what kind of oil are you using when you are boosted? what numbers? i just put 5w20 Royal Purple XPR Racing Motor Oil.. let me know what you guys think.. i know 09 scions suggest 5w20 but hows that viscosity working out for the turbo? isnt it too thin?

 

royal purple is garbage. i use mobil1 5w30.

 

why is it garbage? anything to back up your comment? i could say as well that mobil 1 is garbage lol

i use Mobil 1 10w30, i use a higher weight cause the oil gets a little hotter cause of the heat of the turbo, and thins out quicker.

x2 on why RP is crap? i was thinking about switching.

 

well i just did my first oil change, i just hit 3k miles so i i was like why not try it..

okay i use 10w-30 people have been trying to convince me to start using 5w-30 cause of the thin blah blah blah...and i was also going to switch to RP and everyone tells me its crap also....watching on why its crap!

 

yeah 10w30. because a 10 weight oil is a little thicker it becomes less thin when it gets as hot as it does vs. 5w is good for a N/A engine cause the oil dosent get as hot because it dosent run through a turbo. It also helps with cool down times, cause it won't glaze over on the inside of your turbo as much. Been boosted for about 15,000 miles so far i've gotten my oil hot enough that i acctually started burning off a little of my 5w which is why i swithed to 10w and have had no problems!

ive used 10x 30 since my first oil change royal purple now im at 30k no problems at all and im about to be turboed

 

i used rp before currently redline 5w30.. im gonna send oil for analysis and see if i would need to switch for higher viscosity

i used to run 5w-30 Mobil 1 and now i just switched to RP 5w-30. I really havent noticed any difference, i heard alot of good stuff about RP..

so can someone state why RP is crap ?

I want to try quaker state anyone knows anythign about it ?

and also i think i seen someone running 10w-40 or something like that...

whats the reccomendation to use during the winder ?

 

I was talking to paul (from dezod) and he told me to run 10-W40 during the summer time.

 

Motul for first 3500 miles, and been on generic Napa full synthetic for 3000 miles. No problems with either. Gonna switch to AMSoil for my next oil change.

 

i like amsoil, but im not boosted.

haha yea, its boring, but the videos pretty informative.

 

The one thing I noticed from that video more than anything, was that the temperature skyrocketed when he added the Royal Purple. It was staying steady 95 before the Royal Purple, then it jumped to like 129 after he added it.

 

when he used regular oil he only put 3 weights on it and when he used RP he put 4 on it. lol
