what kind of oil are you using when you are boosted?

These oil threads have gotten me pretty uncertain of the oil I should be using as well. Wish there was just RIGHT answer sometimes, instead of various conflicting opinions.
I used to use Mobil 1 Synethic 5W-30 and last oil changed I switched to RP Synethic 5w-30. I did notice that my oil pressures did seem to drop some indicating that it was thinner than the Mobil 1.

remember the first digit is the viscosity when the engine is cold, which is where the W comes in. The W stands for wintergrade. So really if you are having oil breakdown due to heat, you should want the second number to be higher, not the first. I personally think that anyone who is boosted should address the heat first. Why not try upgrading your t-stat, get a larger/more efficient radiator, and finally get an oil cooler. If you do all those, you should see minimal change in oil temps and you would be perfectly fine running 5w-30.
Oh, I guess I have to tell everyone what I am running. Although I am not boosted, I plan to be lol. I am running RP 5w-30. Good stuff, never had a problem with it.

from what i under stand the first number is the weight of the oil the "w" meaning weight. the second number is the lubricity.
just throwing in my two cents on what i believe.
so the heavier the weight the less thin it gets when heated up. hence why you would run a heavier weight in a turbo car because the oil gets hotter.

I have always used Quaker State in both of my other cars, but i always ran mobile 1 in my Rodeo Direct injection. I just did the 15K service on my 09 tC. I used Quaker State 5w-20 full synthetic. Compared to the toyota synthetic blend previously used in the 5 and 10k service, the engine seems to run a bit smoother now. I'm not turboed yet but I'll be switching to a higher weight when the time comes.

I'm not saying it's bad, I know RP is good stuff, I'm just saying that they didn't address the temperature difference.

The temperature difference was most when he added RP to the other oil. But RP by itself, the temps were nearly the same slightly higher 98 (other) vs 107 (RP), but the amperage is lower in the RP (whatever that means).

Better boost response than Redline since its a little thinner.

so i stand corrected! I did some research and i have come to the conclusion that i might start running Mobil 1, 0w40. It gives you the best start up lubrication and a higher high temp threshold then 5w or 10w30's
