Wow. Never knew it was so negatively looked upon. Does anyone else offer a supercharger?

actually, the problem with the supercharger was that it didn't suck enough...air into the engine to make enough power for most people's tastes.

No. The first gen supercharger blew up motors and just plain sucked.

The second gen was built better. Not many stories of blowing up to many motors. They uped the price $1200 to $3200. and only added 5 extra hp. Not worth the $3800 w/ install for only 55 whp, when a I/E/H/P will beat a s/c at the track. Lol

It only took me 3 months to get rid of my brand new one.

so yeah. All in all. They sucked.

When I looked into the tc back in 06 plus the supercharger they were the same prices.

I could be wrong. But I remember the sales man saying for $2500 I could be "boosted" installed. Lol

I think they stopped making it because the supercharger was failing more than they expected and it failed while most cars were under bumper to bumper warranty. And we all know Toyota doesn't want that.....

lol, tc's with intake exhaust and headers beating supercharged tC's. dude, what are you smoking? i drag raced several tc's with those mods and even with a crappy launch, i reeled in every one and beat them.

the supercharger wasn't a bad piece of hardware. it was was mainly due to installation errors by inexperienced toyota techs. then poorly maintained by owner's. also, a lot of them bought theirs second hand too, and then posted problems they ran into.

i bought brand new, had an experienced toyota tech install it, and i always take good care of my tC. no problems with the supercharger.

Brackets broke... the blower bearings had issues.... oil leaks.... etc. Overall not a well built unit and didnt provide nearly enough usable power for the price. So most people were just buying turbo kits instead.

And the price was nearly identical between the old and new ones gameover. TRD sparks started selling the rest of the earlier units for a hugely reduced price, the new units were very close to the price the original was when it came out.

I been seeing the threads for people that have gone F/I with their tCs ever since I became a SL member over 4 years. I'd go the F/I route with mine if it weren't so damned expensive for the kits.
And the S/C route like is mentioned above, is also a hefty investment of cash for minimal gains verses the cost. And not to mention comes with the distinct possibility that engine damage could occur.
I already have the I/E/H set up on my N/A current platform.
Any ideas for more noticeable hp gains w/o going the expensive F/I setup?
I want to be judicious with any other mods above what I currently have... as I plan on having this tC for many more moons

First off the normal s/c driver was in the 14.7-15.4 area in the 1/4.
More on the 15.0 mark. Seen I/e/h/p pull the same numbers. So I'm not smoking anything. And I owned a s/c. So I know that if I was lucky I was at 180-185 whp. A tc with the 4 bolt ons could take the s/c. Not saying it happens often. But it does happen.

And yeah it doesn't matter if you have a experianced tech install it of not. They had there flaws. The shaft not being balanced right, the airbox clips breaking.

So yeah. It has to do with the install but in this products case. It doesn't.

When you have the master tech tell you it garbage. It's garbage.

i just wish TRD would sell the supercharger rights to like Blitz or HKS. its funny how the xB gets a supercharger from Blitz and GReddy when us tC guys only have one from TRD.

a poor carpenter blames his tools.

right off the bat with my supercharger and a weapon-r header and zpi crank pulley, i dyno'ed 209 whp. hell, even on p-tuning's dyno, a stock supercharged tc dynoed 190-195.

Mouse,

SC = F/I

Forced induction just means forcing air into the engine. A turbo and supercharger are both forms of forced induction.

Just clarifying since it sounded like you were comparing SC to F/I in your post.. think you meant to say that you want to go turbo instead of SC.

Even if it is 209. There is a reason why Toyota pulled the plug.
Nuff said.
The reason why they were blowing the units up were because of the nst pulley. It was melting the bearing.
Then Toyota got smart and added the tamper proof bolt. Lol.

Your right there are some people that never have problems. But then there are some that do.
