Default *JL Audio w6 or w7*

Alright.....im gonna be upgrading my system sometime around the summer. Im gonna go All JL Audio! My local audio shop is gonna do the install.

I wanted to know what yall prefer from the 12w7 or 12w6v2?

Im not looking to get 2 subs cause i only want 1 amp (500/1). I also still want space in my hatch and dont want it to take up all of it. Im thinking about getting it fiberglassed wrapped in Black Suede and mounted it off the the passanger side kind of tucked in but that might be hard since JL subs need their space. Should i also go with that type of box? (Fiberglass with black suede) Or should i just go the traditional way? I dont take the tC to shows or anything but i wouldnt mind. I know fiberglass is mostly for show. Is it possible to port a fiberglass enclouser? I never heard of it?

Im also getting JL XR650-CSi Components, JL XR650-CXi Coaxials and a 300/2 amp. All Stinger Connections! All customized with 3/4" MDF wooden baffels.

Tell me what yall think and please no bashing.
Im not a noob on car audio i just want input on what yall think would be better?
I know there are some car audio experts on here and wanted to see what yall think?

if im not mistaken a w7 will run better with 1000/1 btw i hear they are both great i have heard a w6 vented... sounded good personally wouldnt spend that much on it but i wouldn't mind having a w7 with a 1000/1 btw

I pick w7 w/a 1000/1 should be fine im running more power on my setup ;)

if you want space...

the W6 with a 500.1 is good... they sound good in sealed and in ported... that way you can have it glasses in the pass side spot and it will sound good... otherwise they need big ported boxes...

but if you short change a W7 with a sealed box... your pretty much wasting you money... the 12w7 is fine with a 500.1 if you were gonna get a 13w7... deffinately a 1000.1 but truthfully... dont get a W7 unless your prepared to lose your trunk space.. they absolutely need to be in ported boxes... they sound like crap in sealed..

a poorly built enclosure for these subs can finnish them...

believe me... i have rich little kids come in all the time that have bought them off ebay and built their own boxes and them bring them to my shop complaining that they suck... no dumb@ss.. you just dont know how to set it up... my personal opinion... they JL stuff should be taken from them and they should be blacklisted so that they can never buy JL again..

lol...

If getting the w7, I'd highly suggest an mdf ported box, heavily braced, double mdf face, and ported....

if you're set on fiberglass, get a w6 and seal it..

It completely depends on your style. I personally prefer the w6v2. Best woofer ever. But I'm not into insane bass. The w6v2 will give you a full sound, without all the mud. The w7 is suprisingly muddy for JL. It hits hard as hell, but sounds more like mtx than jl. If all you're listening to is heavy bass stuff and you wanna be heard from miles away, go with the w7. But if you want a system that will be clean and powerful, go with the w6v2. (FYI- you can run two subs off the 500/1. It's less efficient, but it works. And in a hatchback, one ten will more than take care of ya.)

12w7 is one of the best out there, just get one with a great amp and you'l be set.

Or could could take my route and grab some Alpine Type-X's 1000watts a piece
its gonna run you some $ cause they ARE the best but it's worth it,lol

well i do like bass and listen to alot of hip hop and rap.

So...... its either 12w7 or 12w6v2 both with 500/1

I can get a deal, 12w7+500/1 for $850.....or......12w6v2+500/1 for $760?
do those sound like reasonable prices? Im not sure on normally the subs run?

^^ that's what I'm talking about.... if you're going to have a W7, get a box like that... for a fiberglass enclosure, I'd definitely get the W6..

OK i think im gonna be going with the w6. BUT im not sure if i want a 10 or 12?

Does any1 know if a fiberglass box can be ported? Would a fiberglass box be good or will the traditional MDF box be better? Im wanting to kinda tuck the sub in the passanger side of the hatch. Customize it like that? But im wondering if it will sound good fiberglassed? I also want to be able to take it out when i need to! Please give me some info on what yall would do? Thanks!

I'm still saying 10w6 man. Cleanest sub you'll come across.

with what you are running I would go 10w7 ported. The 500/1 will run this no problem
500/1 on 12w7 is a little on thw lite side. Fiberglass will work just double up on the rings and back fill face. I have done 4 12w7 in a full fiberglass box. The 10w7 will perform very well it is a great sq sub. Can I ask why 300/2 instead of a 300/4?
I personally think the 300/2 sounds better but you will be dropping the ohm load.
So I just was wondering.

ok..

i am still saying stick with the W6...

for the amount of jl stuff i put in cars on a regualr basis.. i know way to much to steer you wrong...

sealed for sure on the W6.. off to the side and glassed... it will sound awsome and will still give you the most amount of space in the back...

whoever said that the W7 is a great SQ sub... your retarded... sorry.. SPL yes.. SQ no.. if your looking for a SQ sub.. find the Focal 11" sub.. by far the best out there...

the W7 was built to just be flat out rediculous.. i have even had my JL rep tell me... W6 for clean sound... W7 for mean bass...

just depends on what your looking for.. but if you were my customer.. you would be having an enclosure built on the drivers side for your 12" W6 and another on your pass side for you 500.1
