Default [xbox+DDX7015] still a work in progress, but got a vid up...

hey guys, just wanted to give an update on what i've going on in my car. i apologize for the camera work, i was trying to pick a song and shoot at the same time....but this is what it looks like when my car 'boots':

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUyQ0YhCsNQ

i started this project a year ago but i'm fresh out of school and my job kinda got in the way. anyhow, here's the run down:

- xbox v. 1.2 w/ Xecuter 2.2pro chip, running a custom version of the X2 4983 bios.
- 250 gig HDD, xbmc w/ MC360 skin.
- Kenwood DDX-7015 headunit, custom brackets so the door closes.
- i won't list the subs/amps/etc, because its kinda offtopic.

couple of notes about this install:
- the controller buttons were previously molded into the driver's side door, but i have now taken on the huge task of making a touchscreen to usb converter so that xbmc can run off of it. for any fellow electrical engineers out there, i will be using a PIC18F452 microcontroller with a cute little USB comm. chip that i have used a bit from work, can't remember the name right now.
- power is controlled by a relay on the acc. line, e.g. when the car is on the box is on. however, i can overrule that w/ the switch manually if for some reason i need the box to be on w/out the car on.
- couple of ways to get new music on the box:
1) take the HDD into my house and put it in a diff. xbox, upload stuff
2) turn the box on and as long as i'm parked near the house i can upload stuff wirelessly
3) throw stuff on a USB stick and plug it into the box, useful to listen to podcasts or any 1-time listen type of thing.

thanks for looking, let me know if you've got any questions....and if anyone's curious, the song is 'get yourself high' by the chemical brothers.

Thats a really cool splash screen. Could you take some pics and/or video of the controller or touchscreen setup?

Thanks

Nice job. Media center is the best thing to happen to xbox. I have to give serious props to the programmers. i didn't care too much for the xbox 360 skin/layout. But that's just a matter of opinions. Speaking of the 360...once they make the media center for it....I'll definately be getting one. But once again, nice work. All that time spent going into it was well worth it, it seems.

Awesome work. I just put a screen in my car and would love to work on doing something to this nature.

nice. i'd like to see pics of your custom molded controller.

i also used a ddx7015 for my xbox. powered directly off of 12volt...this is a link to the thread:

also, you guys don't need a chip anymore for xbmc. you can soft mod it with s/w update.
