Default '05 tC Bazooka Sub + Aftermarket Headunit

I've got an '05 tC that has the factory bazooka sub. The stock headunit crapped out, and we replaced it with a Pioneer touchscreen DVD player. My girlfriend bought it and had it installed at Best Buy, and all seemed fine.

We did however notice that the stereo didn't put out as much bass as it used to, but we just assumed we needed to tweak the EQ on the headunit--long story short, we didn't think about it until we were at the car wash and noticed that there was no sound coming from the subwoofer.

Best Buy did not mention anything about disconnecting the subwoofer for the install or anything of the sort. Should it have been easy for them to reconnect to the new headunit? I've read a few threads here about this, but I can't seem to come to a conclusion that I understand. Is this an easy thing to do, and should it have been done? Should I go back to Best Buy and have it done? We're bummed--especially since they didn't even tell us that it had been disconnected.

I just notice the same thing. I had my new Pioneer HU for like 8 months, but havent drove it for like 6 months(deployed) and i had like the bass high, and it sounded like it was kicking until i was getting something from my trunk and my music blasting and i could hear the bass at all. I also got the HU installed from Best buy. Damn the speakers fooled me. They sound good. lol. But sad, i would also know if theres another wired u have to buy or something to make it work. Thanks.

take the head unit off and see if you can find the spare plug.
the wiring harness for that sub split off the main radio wiring down the passenger side of the car and off to the back where it plugged into the subwoofer box.
if i remember right, theres the +/- pair for each front channel, power and then the remote wires on the harness. if you can't just replug it somehow (because they forgot or just didnt do it since sound came out when they were done and left the extra thing unplugged) then you may be able to cut the plug and tap them directly back into the stock wiring.
which you might have to do, i'm thinking the sub harness had a specific plug for it on the back on the radio, but its been years since i have thought of it so im fuzzy on the whole thing.

theres a install pdf on this page for that subwoofer.
http://www.trdsparks.com/displaypart...&parts_id=1243

maybe it will help as well, but it doesnt reall show whats done back behind the radio.

searched for "bazooka install" and found this as the first thread under this one in the results.

and yes, the sub harness uses its own connector on the back of the radio, your gonna have to splice the wires into the main ones.

the factory subwoofer amplifier is the size of a calculator and is located inside the subwoofer enclosure. it is very delicate and has a nasty habit of blowing when connected to anything other than a factory radio. just fyi.

Interesting. Upon inspection, it doesn't look like there's any disconnected harnesses or anything, so I wonder if they installed it correctly but then it blew? If that's the case, what are my options for installing a new amp, while keeping the existing sub and enclosure?

I'll take a closer look today or tomorrow and see if I can find the wires coming from the back, and see where they've been spliced in.

take the sub out and remove all the crap thats inside the box.
theres a circle circuit panel screwed into the side of the box where the amp and the wiring harness plugs in. take that out too.
run some new speaker wire through the circle hole, use some silicone sealant or whatever to fill in the hole that the circle plug/socket left. this will hold the wire as well once it dries so leave some slack inside the box to make taking the sub out easier, and have plenty outside so it will reach your new amp.

and the wiring harness plug that originally plugged into the box, cut off the connector and you can wire these into a converter or an amps hi input if it has it.
red is 12v, the remote is blue,
white is left front +, white/black is -
grey is right front +, gray/black is -

granted this will only work if that harness is still working right. this is what i did with mine. i have that wiring harness wired to two amps that are running components in my doors and a JL w3 sub in that box, works great.

even if the amp is blown, you can still use the bazooka subwoofer and enclosure with a different amp. there is plenty of space next to the spare tire to mount an amp. you could also change out the bazooka subwoofer for another 10 inch subwoofer and seal the port with a 3 inch pipe plug.
