Default '05tC use '06tC ipod HU?

I can buy one of the 08600-21802 ipod-ready 06 tc head units and swap it out for my 05 tc single cd headunit? I don't have xm/sirius or a cd changer.

Has any used the DICE electronics ipod adapter? It says it displays text on the head unit and it works with 04-06 tCs.

...... you need a whole seperate wiring harness that's not wired inside your car...

it's not an easy task.

a wiring harness to/from where? Like running the cable for the ipod connector in the center console or is this to convert the old scion radio harness to a new version?

no... there's a completely seperate harness that plugs into the HU itself that isn't present in the '05 model.

woops, looks like you're wrong. From http://home.cfl.rr.com/icdedppl/faq.html:

yes it will! the standard wiring harness for the 2005 and 2006 are identical. just pull out your older HU and put in the new one. also, see this thread: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=67639

However the difference is that the ipod option doesn't work since you don't have the toyo-aux-03 port for the center console. MY question is, why not just buy the 06 one and wire it to the console yourself?

no... you won't have the harness necessary for the iPod. which is what you were asking, right? iPod for '05?

unless you mean to ask if an '06 HU will operate and work.. then of course..
but then the aux and radio controls harness obviously aren't in your car either.

your question was unclear... headunit of course will work, but iPod function won't.. as well as your aux and radio controls without the wiring..

as far as the other two harnesses... that's for any standard toyota vehicle... so any headunit from toyota will work for ours... and even the eclipse avns with use the same size plugs as well.

and like i mentioned in the first reply.. getting ahold of such wiring harness to wire yourself for the iPod is difficult.. it's expensive as well.

and as far as an '05 unit working in an '06+ with radio controls... (little swaying from the topic)... but yes.. those older units will accept the radio control plugs and can be controlled.

The wiring harness you want is wrapped into the wiring harness that runs from the center console up to the dash behind the headunit. the harness splits in this area, one section goes up and to left, towards the drivers side, the other section goes to the right towards the passenger side, this is the section where the ipod cable ends. Took me 15 minutes of careful cutting with wire cutters to get it out. You will need to find someone with a junk 2006 - 2007 xA xB or tC, because no one will want to cut this out of a working vehicle. I have installed the 06 ipod headunit in my 05 tC succesfully, so it can be accomplished!!! The hard part is finding the wiring harness.

here is what it looks like:
