Default 06 tC i-POD 16 pin Wiring Conn. Req. UPDATED! $$$

I want to install the 06 i-POD head unit into my 05 tC, but I can't buy the 16 pin connector from my Scion dealer that is located behind the dash (it's not available as replacement part yet). I'm making my own harness, but need this connector to plug into the back of the head unit. This connector is just taped to the left side of the headunit and is not used if you don't have the i-POD unit.

My request is this: Is anyone willing to cut the connector off of their 2006 xA, xB, or tC vehicle if you plan to never use it and sell it to me? I need the one under the center console too (also a 16 pin, but different shape).

At any rate, if anyone is willing, I'll pay you $100.00 for both 16 pin connectors right now via PayPal for the two connectors. I'll even pay you an extra $10 to mail them to me. Email me directly.

Thanks,
Dean

Here's the link and yes you can buy it from Toyota but it's about $70.

The part number is
PT546-21062 I-POD ADA

I just ordered the cable and it's the same one that comes when you order the radio. The part number given is for the actual cable that connects to the ipod and not the cable from the radio to the ipod plug in that mounts in the vehicle.

Does anyone know if a harness exists to connect the radio to the ipod connector? The 06 models have this harness behind the console. Does one exist? Please help.

I ordered that cable using that part number and I got the cable that runs from the radio to the ipod connector. I think the dealer screwed up and ordered you the wrong part.

Ok, I ordered that cable and also got the black cable that connects to the ipod and the other end to the jack in the center console. This part number is not for a cable that connects to the back of the radio. McoTC - can you check and see if there were any other part numbers for cables for your set-up? Thanks!

My dealer just installed my iPod HU, but the iPod doesn't seem to be working with it. I plug it into the cable, which is hooked into the jack in the center console, but nothing happens. I tried resetting the iPod, nada. I'll take it back tomorrow, could they have forgotten a connection somewhere?

John,
I just received my i-POD radio I bought off of ebay and also just ordered another cable PT546-21061 which is the cable that has the jack PT546-21062 plugs into. I have no idea if the other end of the new cable I ordered will plug into the back of the radio. I should have the cable today and will post my findings. I have a feeling it won't, but I'm not stopping there. Toyota/Scion has to sell this plug. I know they sell other "radio connector" plugs because let's face it, radios and harness' get stolen and those harness' have to be repaired, so you would think there are replacement parts.

OK, so there are several different shape connectors for the connection of the ipod harness. The radio has a 16 pin connector that has one shape. From there to under the center console is the other end of this harness which is also 16-pin, but a different shape. The ipod jack harness that comes with the radio plugs into this, then the customer cable plugs into the jack. Whew!

The 16pin connector behind the radio has a part number which is 90980-12423, but is not available yet. It's just the connector and does not include the metal terminals inside. You can get these at your Scion dealer, but they are about $3 a piece. Now, the other 16 pin connector under the console is available and is part number 90980-12155 for about $7. You need these two connectors plus terminals to make your harness. Your looking at about $110 just for the freaking connectors.

If you want to utilize the speed compensating volume and add the AUX jack, you will also need the 20pin connector that also connects at the back of the radio. That part number is 90980-12259 and is available. You'll need one terminal for the speed compensating volume (to tap into the speed signal) and 4 terminals for the AUX jack if you choose to do so. The steering wheel audio controls also go into this connector, but since I don't have that steering wheel, I obiously won't be hooking that up.

That's what you need. I can't make the harness until the one 16-pin connector is available, and who knows when that will be. I was told 2-3 weeks.

Also, see my new request above (first post) to buy your 16 pin connectors!

Slodeanis,

New here, but in the same boat with you. I have a 2004 4Runner and just installed the 06 TC iPod upgraded stereo and have the iPod part for the center console, but missing the harness between the 2. I'd be very interested in the solution. If you do make a custom harness, count me in for another and $$. I have a guy at Partznet.com (Steve) that has been a great help, but is still looking into some options. I'll keep checking back, but wanted to intro. myself.

Thanks,
Rob
