Default '09 tC - Have a few questions regarding Amp/Sub

Just bought a JL W6V2 12" and an MTX TA4501 Amp. Just wanted to get some feedback on what wiring I should use. I'm thinking 8Ga will be fine, but thought maybe I should go with 4ga.

Also, the main reason of this post, is to find out if anyone thinks i'll need a capacitor with this setup. I'm thinking it should be ok, but there are definitely a few people on these forums who would know more about the tC's stock battery/Alternator.

Please respond quickly.

Thanks!

no matter the system use 0-4 ga in case you ever decide to build it or go larger. but that's just my opinion (other may agree or disagree). i have a spare batt for my system (kinetik) and i honestly dont think i really use it; and caps are usually only good if you are playing it loud using an extremely powerful amp. but i dont think you will need one for this set up.

8ga will be fine for that amp alone, but if you add another amp 4ga, so think about the future. A cap isn't needed and likely wouldn't help in this system, but it sure won't hurt and could be good if you add more amps later.

You do not need a cap... end of story. I would use 4awg wire to leave yourself some headroom for upgrades. Going to a bigger gauge wire will not hurt anything but will save the the hassle of having to run a new power wire in the future.

Its a good sub but you can definitly upgrade the amp. The JL will sound good if set up properly though. I just think with that sub that you want, with that amount of power, IDK what your plans are but if you are planning on blowing windows out you can do it with that sub but not with that amp

I run caps on all my systems because I don't like driving down the road and oncoming drivers can see my lights dimming all over the place. 4g is definitly recommended, small wires and lots of power kills amps. Trust me I know my systems!

I agree about the amp. I would get something else to power that sub. Don't waste money on a cap, use that extra money to buy a better amp.

yes i'm dead serious

read that you might learn something

for musical applications they're meh but good amplifiers have more than enough capacitance that you don't need a cap. for SPL they're worthless. for SQ they're really not needed. they're a bandaid for a weak electrical system. they're not the magic solution for everything wrong.

I don't have time to read all that nonsense! I know the facts. All a cap is, is a small battery stores energy. Your application works good for you and yor classicals but not with hip hop or music with bass, I'd rather use a cap. What kind of amp and single sub are you using again?

I think you are wrong but my systems have never failed me. I will try to do more research into this matter though.

Your system my have never failed you, but you wouldn't know any different, if you don't take the time and have the experience to understand what true SQ sounds like. Read about it all you want, but until you are able to listen to hundreds of different brands, you won't be able to appreaciate what your reading.

DLS owns all. DLS to kicker is like comparing a Alfa Romeo to a Geo. Thats not a personal opinion, thats a fact. If only I had $700 to drop on components.
