I said it's a great car but what to do with the empty space. I used reversed psychology on him and he told me that the radio was wonky. It was in and out and display some times didn't want to work.
So I responded and told him I didn't remove it.
So I told him I didn't take it out. But now I know that it's having problems I want to replace it and is there a way to keep the flip up door with the replacement radio? Any tips on how to remove the OEM radio ?

This should be moved to the 1st Gen board, but the door is not part of the Head Unit. I'm not really sure what you're asking but you should be able to swap the Head Unit without affecting that functionality.
Search on the 1st Gen boards and see if there is an Install guide, else Crutchfield usually has instructions.

My car is a 2005. Scion came out in 2004 for First Gen. Then what is Second Gen year? With the tC model?
