Default 2005 tC key and 3 Button Fob

Is the tC 2005 equipped with any remote starter?

Does it have an Immobilizer?

I want to get a new key made with the 3 button remote key less entry.

Is that a big expensive deal?

Fob has only three buttons: lock, unlock and a red panic button.

Where can I get one with the Scion logo rather than the Toyota logo?

I have a 2005 and mine has the Scion logo. A key itself made from Toyota to be able to start the car will rub u anywhere between $200-600 b/c of the transponder.
You can always find a blank key on eBay with the Scion logo and get it cut but that'll be strictly Valet use unless you transfer the transponder from one key to the next

Thank you GMC 113.

Wow! up to $600!

I can get a used transmission for the price a dealer will charge for the key.

Dang.

No that is not true... You can get the key for cheap off of ebay and if any dealer charges you more than 90 to program AND cut the key they are ripping you off. I got mine replaced for a total of 75 bucks. Purchased the key off of ebay for 50 free shipping and I went to the dealer and they programmed it and cut it for 25. Took them less than 5 minutes. If you want a REPLACEMENT key and yours is just beat up you can get a new case for like 5 bucks on ebay and swap everything over and just cut the key blank. But if you want an extra one you will have to get the actual transponder replacement key WITH all the internals which the cheapest I found for an OEM one was 50.

Most dealers charge roughly 90 an hour for labor and most are a**holes and if they do work they charge a minimum of one hour regardless if it takes them 30 seconds or 59 minutes. I talked to the service manager and told him I just needed it programmed which I know only takes them going to the computer and looking up the vin and hit the button and I didn't need it cut because I could get that done myself but they offered to go ahead and do it since it is under the same vin information.

Hi GMC,

I mean a fully functioning 3 button Key.

Each of the 3 buttons has to work.

So whatever internals, programming, etc etc is involved.

Yes I can get a 3 button key with no chip- or transponder for what 8.00 dollars on Ebay.

Id like a 100% fully functioning 3 button key.

Separate from my other key- Id like to have two keys.

It's own case, chip , transporter.

You can get the key with the internals AND the transponder either from ebay for 60-90 bucks or pay double that at the dealer for the same part, You then take that to your dealer with your registration and they can program the transponder to work with your car and cut the key at the same time. The Keyless buttons you can do yourself if they don't do that for you as well because that is simple.

I mean I purchased a key WITH the transponder in it along with the keyless pad in there as well. I then took that to the dealer and they programmed the transponder and cut the blank to START my car. I programmed the keyless myself after all of that was done. I believe if you have two keys that have the transponder you can even go to lowes and they can duplicate the keys to get you a third one and they do it CHEAP. BUT if you only have one working key then you must go to the dealer so they can give you a NEW code that will work with your car on that new key.

Basically your ecu has a set of codes that it will allow the car to start as long as it see's them.

The dealer always programs a NEW code to the key that you bring to them or purchase from them and makes it work with your car. So basically the car will now have 3 codes that it will accept to start the car. (if you started with 2 good keys)

Lowe's (with the new technology out just like I use on a daily basis for remote starts) can take two keys, Read the two codes off of them and the duplicate the SAME code onto a new transponder. So basically the car won't know the difference between the new key and the old key meaning the car still only has 2 codes it will allow the car to start with but you have 3 keys, Two of which have the same code.

TheMuffinMan00 - I need a new key for my '05 tC. I still have one of the original keys that came with the car, but I want to get another. I need an entirely new key/fob/transponder (whatever - the whole thing in other words). I called my local Scion dealership and they charge $231 for the key and $50 to program it, which is absolutely ridiculous in my opinion. Is this something like you're talking about buying off ebay?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/320906058471?item=320906058471&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
I could then take that into the dealership, have them cut it for $50 and save myself $231 in the process. No?

Each key has a transponder in it. That's the spendy part. I just bought a key off of ebay for $26 bucks. It was an old key so I took the transponder out and put it in a cheap $7 ebay shell. Got the key cut then programmed at the dealer. Beat the crap out of the $200+. But you have to make sure you have a transponder. Without it it won't start, you can unlock/lock the doors but the car won't start.

So, I purchased a replacement key with transponder off eBay, and I went to my Scion Dealership today to get it programmed. They said they couldn't program the key. And they went ahead and cut the key so now I can't return it to the company I purchased it from. They charged me 30 bucks to sit in their lobby for 45 minutes.

So, if anyone knows how I can get this key programmed to my car, I'd greatly appreciate any advice. It's basically just a valet key. I can't even get the buttons to work. I don't want to remove my transponder from my original key because that is my original key, and I don't want to run the risk of breaking the transponder. I bought my car used, and it only came with that key. I have since purchased a valet key and just a normal key with no buttons. I just love keyless entry. Lol. I can still use my old key, it's just falling apart hence why I purchased a new one, and now I feel like I've wasted my money.

If you guys ever need an immobilizer chip programmed, just send me a private message(lower price) or go to my ebay listing. I can make a chip to start your car without having the car in front of me. You can then put the chip inside whatever case you want, program the wireless remote to your doors and the car will start.
