Default 2007 HU swap w/ 2008 HU - color difference??

I just installed a base HU from a 2008 tC into my 2007 tC. I'm in love with the iPod function BUT it's a completely different orange color than my gauge cluster, and HVAC.

I like the newer orange on the 2008 HU, so I wouldn't mind swapping out my gauge cluster and HVAC with a '08 model if they're the same color. Does anyone know if they are? And could I order them from the dealership and swap'em out no problem?

I know i'd probably be better off just changing the LEDS myself, but I dont have time to send it off nor the skill to do it myself.

you can't swap out the gauge cluster due to your odometer reading.. but i don't see any issues with regards to swapping out the HVAC.

don't expect to pay anything cheap either if you were planning to order it.

yeah i was thinking that the odometer reading would prevent me from swapping that out, but what if someones odometer was messing up and they had to swap it? Is there no way for the dealer to program it to start at a certain number?

I broke by gauge cluster and recently bought a new one despite the fact that everyone said it wouldn't show the right miles. But I simply plugged it in, and my miles showed up fine right where they left off.

where did you buy the new one?

the dealership can't program the cluster.. they need to special order a new one pre-programmed from the factory.

that makes sense ptOne - Maybe the cars ECU or something has the milage programmed into it and the gauge cluster is just a display for the odometer reading and doesn't really count it.

How much was your new one? and where did you get it?

I bought one on ebay. It wasn't new though it was used. idk if that has something to do with it. But the milage has to be coming from the ecu, because I drove around with out gauges for several weeks waiting for my new ones to arrive and I put on around 200 miles durning that time which showed up when I put the gauges back in.

believe me.. i've done enough led swaps and playing around.... the odometer reading is stored in flash memory ON the gauge cluster itself.

it's been like that for years.. even in the old classic cars when the mechanical odometer spinny, spin things existed.

it's always on the cluster itself.

the ecu doesn't store it.... you wanna try it? borrow a local friend's gauges and stick them in your car.... it's not gonna read your mileage.. but his/hers instead.

leds are a part-time thing for me. i do swaps whenever my schedule permits, but always try to make myself available for any questions at the very least.
