Default Adding another amp.. do I need to beef up my electrical??

With the addition of another Polk C500.1 along with my C400.4 and two Polk SR124 DVC's... I think I might be taxing my electrical system.

My total system will about 1300 RMS. Currently its about 800 and I can see light dimming on bass this might be due to a poor install by exotic autosound and motorsports. I am going to be regrounding the amps and of course larger power wire.

So do I need to get a High Output Alternator and if so can someone suggest a reliable model and source?

do you need a high output alt i dont think so..id say you would prob just need a faster cycle battery like kinetic or one of the other brands. what size wire do you have for you power wire from the battery to your dist block

Thats the info I was going by and unless Im wrong, the stock alternator is 100 amp. Using the 40% formula that gives me 40 amp reserve. My amps total average is 60 and I want to go a bit above that so I figure 150 amp but I want to shoot for 200 in case I add more.

Currently there is 4 gauge wire to the distribution block and also 4 guage from there to the amps. When I add this third amp I am removing the 4 guage main and putting in 1 gauge.

I cannot find much info on replacement for the 2007 but for the 2005-2006 OEM replacements the rating is 100 amp.

Does anyone know if there are larger gauge replacement ground and power wires in a set or do you just have to make some?

The OEM alternator is 100 amps. There's nothing wrong with going with a bigger alternator - even if your system doesn't require it. It's more of a budget thing, and debunking the myths of car audio. If you can afford a larger alternator, by all means, install it! There will be less voltage drop overall within the entire electrical system. Obviously Scion didn't intend for mega-watt systems to be powered on the OEM alternator.

try doing the big three under the hood.

i haven't done this yet but it will be next on my list.

currently i have about 1200 watts rms in my car and i have no dimming lights. the most i have ever seen my voltage drop is .2 volts. i do have 3 1 farad capacitors in the car right now though. once i do the big three i will try it with only one of them and see how the difference is.

Checked out the ED Big 3 Upgrade but the idea was to buy the cables ready to install, not just buy the parts and then do the cutting and ends myself. In that case I could just buy the cable and ends myself, which is what Im going to do.

you cant buy the parts ready to install because its not really a product its just for grounding... and alt wire that flows better.
The way i did mine was i took the a 1/0 wire from the + bat terminal took it to the firewall ran alont the firewall and put hooked up through the alt...then i took 1/0 from the - bat terminal went down to the (i believe transmition ground) hooked a wire there the put another ring terminal with a 1/0 wire and went to the ground the battery was hooked up to already..ill get pix up later if youd like

Yeah I can see that but it sounds like a mod that everyone should do so I figured there might be a small market for it. Im the type that would rather pay $60 for a bolt on quality setup rather than pay $30 and do it myself

Pix would be cool. Im going to try and find a source locally for wire, ends, crimp tool etc. Hoping Radio Shack has it all. Again Im the type of person that would rather pay more to get it on one place rather than less and run around town all day

If you havent figured it out yet Im LAZY.

id do but if i did it i would use 1/0 and i cant really afford to fork out the kinda of money for a spool. its honestly not that bad so i dont see why you dont do it yourself...the hardest part is doing the crimps and cutting the length, honestly

Well I checked out the eD Big 3 Upgrade pack since its the closest thing to everything needed but its backordered. Also kind of confuse as to why the 0 gauge Big3 Black/Red cost $50 more than the 0 guage Big3 Blue/Silver.

Ok Nebster pointed out the difference between the two kits. One is a higher priced, higher strand wire. I ordered my fuse holder and distribution block for 1 gauge anyway and it looks like eD jumps from 0 to 4 gauge.

This is $3.25 per foot http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KFX0BK . Anyone use this before? It has 5145 strands, Tinned POFC and PVC.
