if you drop down to a stereo manufacturer it will tell you what models work. You can buy the pac steering wheel add ons at crutchfield.com

Careful now. Eclipse decks will ONLY work out of the box if it is a VIDEO screen (double-din). The cdX000 series can work, but you have to do some hard wiring. With the eclipse video units, it is plug and play.
The PAC adapters are hit and miss. Sometimes they work, othertimes not. Regardless, they seem to ALWAYS fail eventually. That's the problem with buying any brand other than eclipse for the scions. I believe eclipse is actually owned by toyota, if not, they work very closely together. For this reason, the wires all match up very nicely. I'd recommend that if you'd like to keep the sw controls

The PAC (universal) adapter I installed worked on the first try with my Pioneer Z1, I almost got the specific Pioneer one they have, but figured I could re-use this one later if I got a different deck. I've been a fan of Pioneer since my first car, so that was the deck for me.
I will say that the PAC adapter does look a little, er.. inexpensive. The case is a super-cheap thin plastic extrusion, and they didn't even line up the stick-on label with the case so the programming switch and LED holes were coverd and I had to cut them out. From seeing pictures of what's inside, it's also, er, inexpensive. Super simple circuit if you program microcontrollers, so someone's making a BOATload off of those things. I was going to make my own Scion-> Pioneer specific converter, but for the time it would have taken the $50 (eBay) PAC was faster / easier. The factory decks are Pioneer so I was hoping the steering controls would just work with the aftermarket Pioneer deck, but nope.

some are ugly, most aren't. But yea, the sound is great. The 5V and 8V pre-outs are real nice too. I initially went with an alpine and didn't want to lose the sw controls, so I switched to an eclipse, best decision yet.
