hey guys,
im looking for a solid amp that will power 2 alpine type r's. I would prefer to stay in the alpine family but im open to other options. I dont have a whole lot of money so i would prefer to keep it cheap yet extremely reliable. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im not that great with car audio but im going to do this setup all by myself. Ive already got a Avic D3 as my head unit.

alpine type r's only sound good if you can find a box with enough cubic feet. So really you need to make one. and yes what tcguy said for amps, but i would get two of them.

 

even then i hate the sound, i've never heard an alpine sub that i liked.

So I take it you haven't bought the Type R's yet?

If this is going in your tC and you expect to have ANY kind of trunk space, I would consider a single 10 or 12, maybe an upfiring 15. As nebster already asked, what is your budget? There are many better subs than Type R's for their price range.

 

haha the age old question... an alpine type r goes for about 250 so you could do something like a JL audio w3v3

 

or anything else, the type r is the most overhyped sub on the market, i personally hate the sub, the sq is meh and personally i'd rather my ____ sound good than hit hard, guess thats just me though

 

For 250, you could do much better than the overhyped JL subs as well. Depends on what the OP is interested in. SQ? SPL? "SQL"? He might not be a hardcore audio junkie... could just be looking for a little extra bump with not much concern for SQ. If that were the case he could go the eD SQ10 route under the trunk floor and sacrifice no storage space...

We just need some info on what he's looking for specifically.

 

ive stuck to 10' subs, i have (in the process of getting) 2 boxes in the trunk that mount by the wheel wells. Im not quite sure the dimensions or the cubic ft inside. i have about 400$ to get 2 10's. iw ant something that bumps hard, but still sounds good when i have the volume down.

 

So your looking for two 10's? What kind of airspace restriction do you have? And are these chambers sealed of ported? Depth of the chambers is important as well. I would suggest Dayton HO 10's or IDQ10's since I'm sure the chambers are <1ft^3 and sealed. If they are a little bigger, IDMAX's would also be a great option.

 

idqv3's would be sick but those are pushing 400 bucks, i would look at fi audio

ok i looked at hte daytons, i like that their cheap, but i dont know the quality or how they sound. The IDQ10's were amazing, i love those if i could manage to find those a bit cheaper, i would jump on it. i looked at fi audio and it seemed promising, but once again i havent heard those so i dont know how they sound.

With the FI audio which speaker line should i go with??

i have a single ten inch Dayton HO, and it's the best sounding sub i have ever used or even heard.

kidwolf will agree. i brainwashed him into getting one in the same exact box off the same amount of power, even placed in the same exact spot in the trunk.

 

The Q would be a good choice for SQL, but retaining a lot of SQ.

 

I like my Type Rs and I use a Alpine MRP-M650

 

Type Rs are decent subs. They might not have the best SQ but they can bump. Its a good sub for the money- sort of like the tC. If you want an excellent amp get the PDX1000.1, if you want something more affordable look for a mrd-m1005. You made a good choice with Alpine.

 

As tcguy said, he "brainwashed" me (not really, I researched a lot) into buying the Dayton HO 10. It is definitely a great sub for a budget build, but it has been directly compared to the IDQv3 and put up quite a fight. Image Dynamics did an amazing job on the IDQ, no doubt, but don't underestimate the Dayton. The company is great, the craftsmanship is top notch, and the materials are of the best out there.

You may not believe me, but after having the Dayton for 5 months, I have NO regrets. My single 10" ported @ 30Hz in a 1ft^3 box provides amazing output from a single 10. It handles a LOT of power from my PDX1.600 and comes together seamlessly with my front stage. Running two of the HO 10's in sealed (or ported) enclosures off 500-600wRMS each would sound wonderful. I highly doubt you'd find the IDQ to be any better, at least not enough to warrant the price tag. They are tried and true, you won't regret it.

EDIT: By the way, if you were to go with an Fi, the sub of choice for you would be an Fi.BL. An Fi.Q would be preferable, but they don't make them in 10's. The BL's are great subs though too.
