Default AMP HELP

so i have 2 Elemental Design sq10's and i have gone through 2 amps with not enough power for them

Im very upset about all this and am looking to buy a new amp tonight (im a major impulse buyer) i know its bad

sadly my subs are parallel wired which sucks real bad so i need an amp with some good power

any suggestions?? id like to stick with pioneer but im open to any options

Just make sure that the new amp is stable down to the impedence level you are running at the power level that the subs can handle. For example, if the subs are capable of 250 watts each at 1 ohm... then you'll want an amp that's 1 ohm stable at 500 or more watts (when wired correctly).

Have you found out why you're "going thru amps"? Are you running them too hard because of lack of power (not enough watts for subs that can handle much more therefore pushing the amp to run harder)? Or are they going out because you're running it at too low of a impedence load (where the amp is only 2 ohm stable and the setup is at 1 ohm)?

its not that the amps are blowing its just they basically turn off after the volume gets to a certain level, and i actually ahve to turn off the car and they work again but turn off once i get to that certain volume level again

i have a coustic 460 amp that is like 15 years old and works like a charm
i dond even know if they still make them anymore
the amp out lasted 4 cars

if you can find one of them i highly recommend
if not
i have allways been a fan of rockford fosgate

alpine makes good amps too

the key to long amp life is do not bridge them
when you do that they run really hot and burn up in no time

also get enough power so you dont have to peak the amp all the time
get more watts than you need and turn the gain down to about half or 3/4 so the amp dont have to work as hard

make sure you have good wiring too

i get most of my stuff from www.crutchfield.com

get a good amp wiring kit
that will prob cost you about 50$

get a lightning cap too
if you are gonna spend 500$ on a amp spend another 100$ on a cap

What amp are you using that is blowing. What ohm load is it seeing. To be honest SQ10s are not very power hungry and are able to be blown with little more than 275w to each.

The NINe.2 would over power them pretty easy.....and hold most any load put to it.

Also have you used a DMM to set your gains properly and is your bass boost off......with it on you just get distortion and cooked voice coils.

I would check your wiring 3-4x

it sounds like your sub are out of phase and thus not providing much output.

What kinda amps have you used?

If they were lower end amps and say 1600watts max you can bet its about 160watts max

Whats your budget on an amp?

the amps are going into protection mode. sounds like they are not wired correctly. find out how low of an impedience (ohms) your amps are stable to (and wattage at that impedance) (ie. 500w @ 2ohms) and what the impedience (ohms) your subwoofers are (ie. dual 2ohm voice coils). Post up that info, and we'll show you your options for wiring.

My guess here would be that you purchased S2 SQ10's and with them wired in parallel you're presenting a 1 ohm load to the amp. Likely an amp that is only rated to 2Ω or 4Ω which would explain the shut down.

Wire them in series, there are a lot of amps out there that'll do 400W x 1 @ 4Ω all day long.
