Default any spl competitors in a tc?

well since i've had the tc the last year and a half i finally have a nice stereo set up and plenty of trophy's from car shows already (and 2 from spl) so thinking next yer to take the spl route for a while to save on some money (rather than 1-2 shows every weekend)

anyways......have you guys found any key tricks to reaching a higher db? back seats up or down, removing the plastic pieces in the hatch, ect.... jsut stuff like that (since i have found just tuning it a little bit can improve it big time and know little querks can always help....

thanks,

You don't need tricks specific for the tC, as all the usual stuff will work.

If I were going to go for competition SPL in the tC, the first thing I'd do is build a wall behind the front seats, dividing the car front to rear into 2 sections at the B-pillar. One of the best things you can do to increase SPL is to decrease the size of the listening area, and the wall would make for a very small space. Next thing to do would be to seal the front of the car as air-tight as possible, because pressuring the mic generates high SPLs.

Beyond that, it really depends on what class you want to compete in, or how much money you want to spend and what SPL you're trying to hit at what frequency. Those things need to be decided before attempting to determine what type & number of subs, amps and enclosure type would be required.

I'm still doing it here and there....
For me back seats down I lost 1db.

I went to a comp a few weeks back it was an IASCA/DBdrag show. I did the IASCA bassboxing comp, which is placeing the TL mic in legal position on the dash and play a song and your db is averaged over a 60second period and you have to have a window, sunroof, or door open. I ended up averaging 140.1dbs, which is pretty good from what I was told from the judge. He never seen someone reach a max spl and have it hold for that whole 60sec.

For my next sub setup I will have a 2005 12" RE XXX sub in a box tuned low in the note of 30hz or so...I'm hoping to get a decent spl number at a low hz....we'll see.

^ That's an exceptional result for your system, under those conditions. Good show!

wow that's pretty good cuz i know dbdrag uses term lab which reads a lot better. because the last spl i did was on audio control and it claimed i hit 152.7 ( haha i still laugh at that claiming i was that loud)
i'm already stuck in class 3 i believe. ( i'll know the seats up for next time as i figured it'd be louder without the cover and the seat down) and still wanting to keep it a show car as well. just wanting to do more spl since its all 2-3 horus away from me. hatch is already dynamat'd. i just need to do some more in the main part of the car.

Well how loud do you want to go........???????

gettign the car sealed is indeed a big part from what I am reading.and you need to test differant placement of the box and subs.Gettign the waves to bounce the right way helps from canceling. If you got 152db I want to sit in your car and quickly go deaf........that is freaking loud.

My last check untuned on mine was 121 db......it is much louder now tuned.....I was at about half the wattage then and now have stepped it up.My guess is I am hitting about 130db now with no clipping.I found 50cents Candy shop to be a sweet song to tune the stereo with........bass hits in that song.

So when you coming back to the PNW.......

i just want to keep going louder since i'll be class 3 because of the amount of cone since i have solo barics. i've already changed around in position to upfire right at the glass to project the sound more than hitting straight back. sealing is the hard part. i've got extra 'fat mat' that im going to do the rest o fthe car with once i get all moved. (still need to do some more testing when its 'warmer' to get my settings correct for next year as USACi's only location around here starts in March/April.

as much as i hate the song 'a millie' it is great for 'bass race' dbdrag (Scared the hell outta me) and i only had my amp up maybe 35% (stillwas breaking in the subs) (remember that was w/ audio control; with term lab it prob would've only been low 140's since it has a better reading than audio control)

. if you wanna go def sit in my buddy's aztek ( 8-eclipse titaniums with 2-kicker zx2500's .....too much bass 1/4 way turned up that it knocked the mic off in 3 seconds lol)

and not sure when i'll be making a trip out there again. hopefully not soon ( was cold enough last time i was there lol)

155-158db is a feat in itself, you better be using a lot of cone area or a lot of power to get up that high.

x100. if you are using term lab then good luck; definately need a ton of power. my buddy running the 8-10's and the 2-2500's is stuck at 148.7 (audio control its beyond that)

we are going to be running 3 15" MTX 8500 subs off of a monoblock 1501d 1500 watt amp. Box is about 9 cubic feet w/slot port and tuned at 33.9hz

Its going to be a stretch but I think 155 is definitely within reach

9cuft in a tc, not going to happen (unless the box is take up the whole back area up to the b pillar), 1500watts=155db another not going to happen, box tuned to 34hz give or take a burp freq of 44hz to reach 155db still isn't going to happen.

box is already made at 8.7 cubic feet and hit 153-154 tuned wrong with subs right out of the box.

once they are broken in and the port is reconfigured I think I can gain 1db. Haha Im not new to car audio. I know a 3 to 4 db gain will be close to impossible but I think ill get to 155's

;)

It's POSSIBLE to put 9 cubes in a tC in the hatch.
