if you plan to buy an aftermarket system.. i'd save up for that..

otherwise.. the iPod upgrade allows you to connect you iPod (obviously).. control it from the head unit itself.. and looks-wise has two ***** and you can change the display color.

We just had this installed in our 07, you can control the ipod from the steering wheel, which is nice. If you have many songs on your ipod it takes a very long time to find a song. But if you are like us and leave it on random, your golden. It also chenges between 10 colors or so, or you can set it to one. The welcome display message is also customizable.

if you are between the stock and the ipod upgrade...i say go after market (pioneer, alpine, eclipse, etc.). you may pay more for it, but you get alot of cool extra features that allow you to make your sound sound alot better, and makes it easier later for upgrades

i have the ipod head unit for my '07 tc. i want to change the head unit so i can get rockford fosgate subs, speakers, amps, etc. basically my question is there headunit where i can do this and not lose the ipod capability? cuz the ipod is controlled from the head unit or steering wheel and rest in the arm rest.

if you wanna add subs to the stock headunit; no problem. but once you start adding components and what not all around, you might as well start looking a new head unit. mainly because it will be ALOT ALOT ALOT easier with an aftermarket headunit to do. and there are a bunch of aftermarket headunits that have ipod capability with an adapter.

i c . the only reason why i was told to get an aftermarket headunit is that once i start adding subs and amp and new speakers i will lose quality because of the pioneer ipod headunit is factory..is that true? and if i where to go with a aftermarket headunit with ipod capability adapater thing ...i was wondering will the aftermarket headunit still go into my armrest jack??

aftermarket will need to have their own cables and adapters.

the stock headunit will be your limit when you upgrade speakers...

some people don't realize how great the stock speakers are until they switch out the headunit and keep those speakers... it's a world of a difference when you go aftermarket HU.

i recommend getting an aftermarket HU before changing out your stock speakers. you'll see.

^ i second that. to be honest i think toyota makes really good stock speakers, just have to tune it right. and the difference between stock unit and aftermarket unit sound quality is night and day.

and just because its factory doesnt mean it has lower quality. just that you dont get all the features you would if you had an aftermarket one.

and if you install the ipod compatibility, you can route the cable anywhere you want too. i routed my to the top part of the arm rest instead of the bottom compartment. its all up to what you want to do.

so i say before you upgrade you speakers, upgrade your head unit first. :D

you would control the ipod from your deck (the deck will read the ipod), so you dont have to worry about accessing your ipod. i.e. for me.. i hardly look at mine anymore, its all deck.. lol
