I just leave my lights in the "on" position - lights on all the time a re a good idea.
I wish SCION had them stay on though like some other cars for 30-60 seconds after you get out...nice for dark nights in the driveway.

They do! You just need to get the Scion Security system installed.

really not necessary. I leave my lights on the on position all the time. Drive with them on in the daylight, so that other cars can see me and also because at night, I forget to drive with them on. Imagine that, I actually forget to turn them on at night.

I do too - what I want is lights that stay on after I leave the car and go to the house, etc.

^^ Then 99.99% chance is that you dont have scion security, you have an aftermarket brand installed by the dealer. The scion security on the tC does not beep and does not turn on the exterior lights. And last I heard none of the programming methods for the other scions work for it, so I dont belive those are options. Post a pic of your lower left dash and we will know for sure, it will have a glass break sensor with LED installed in one switch location with "Scion Security" printed directly on it. If it is, then the dealers should know how to program that... but none of the manuals with mine mention it. Also, if you have scion security, you wold have gotten the manual with a warranty card stating that if the car was stolen within one year while the system was armed they would pay your deductable on your insurance.

I like being able to turn my lights on and off when I want to. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't like when the lights turn on or off automatically. My parents' car does that and I hate it. I am always parinoid that they aren't on when they should be. Just my .02

Also, I have seen various systems like this.. They were ok on the highway, but had some issues when going in and out of towns or different areas of town with different lighting, which caused the lights to continuously switch on and off. They need to be well designed with mulitple photo cells and programming to account for brief changes in lighting to prevent this. So if you buy one or make one take this into account. I leave mine on all the time anyway, they switch off when you remove the key and open the door.

Yeah.. but you have to be careful. I used to do that and I stopped somewhere in the middle of the day and turned the car off but never left the car. I was glad I had a manual cause I was able to let the car roll backward and popped the clutch . I didnt realize the light was on because it was in the middle of the day.

Well... Now you made me go and check...

You are correct. Mine is an after market system installed by the dealer.

It does seem to be a pretty good system though. Here's some of the highlights.

Beep or silent arm/dis-arm modes

6 security zones... Basically one for each window (door-window counts as a zone)

Bump sensors for each zone.

System alerts you if a zone has gone off by beebing 4 times then you can see which zone went off by counting flashes on the on-off switch on the dash and comparing to the manual.

Arm mode - Headlights light for 20 seconds with one beep

Dis-arm mode - Head and interior lights come on for 30 seconds.

in addition the blinks flash a few time when you arm or dis-arm.

and lastly...

The button is a round in-out type switch that lets you set the system to Valet mode letting a valet parker use the key without the doorlocks.

Its a good idea, but engifner is right. If your in a well lit area at night, they will turn off. My wifes toyota has the feature of turning them on...and it works real good. even if I hit a well lit area they stay on for awhile to account for varrying light conditions.

But on the tC i just always have them on. Much safer.
