Default Auto-off headlights - Yes, I've read the posts...

I had an avalon that had the same feature...

I take the keys out with the lights on, open the door, lights still stay on...

Close the door, open the hatch, lights do go off for some reason...

Anyways, I bought the car in NY, my dad just drove it down today to VA...

Will another dealership fix this for me?

Moved to Electrical...

AFAIK, any Scion dealer can do warranty work.

Yea, so apparently, not only do the lights go off when the hatch opens, the car will only beep with the key in when the hatch is opened...

So they def wired the driver door to be the hatch...

That is almost humorous...

The driver door switch is bad. it will be a warranty claim for sure.

That's what should happen, however for some reason they decided to wire the hatch to be the driver's door. So my lights go off if I open the hatch. `

If you turn off the car with the lights on, they will shut off when you open the door. I very rarely turn mine off at all, since daytime running lights are a very good thing to use anyway (and I hear some states even require them now), so that feature is very nice to have... but makes it easy to leave your lights on in other cars

UPDATE
===========

So I took the car in a little after 8am.

I was hoping it'd be done at noon. I kept calling to check, eventually got a call back.

At 12:30, they were trying to blame it on my self-install of XM... how that messed up with the circuitry because the wires were hidden...

--CLARIFICATION--
I hid the wires under the floormats up under the passenger side, also hid the antenna between the felt and whatever along the windshield (antenna is on the inside).

So yea, they had to rethink an excuse after I fought that one off...

At 5pm, apparently they had gotten it working, because all doors should activate the auto-off, but they can't get it to be steady...

Anyways, I got an 05 camry rental because they don't know wtf they're doing... really annoying. At least it was free... just gotta fill the tank.

a little off topic here but in the same category of issues, does anyone know how to rewire the lights from the door to the ignition or some kind of remote source. I have remote start and whenever I crank my car the lights come on but then I have to go out and open the door to turn them off.

Hey, I just realized this had a response...

Did you get your problem fixed?

Your lights should be auto-off when your driver door opens... if it happens with the passenger or the hatch, they miswired.

Hope it works out for you..

It is also worth noting that I had the scion security system with my car... and I think that might have thrown off their wiring... not sure if you also got this too?

They had to keep my car overnight to figure it out... but they gave me a loaner at least. Man that was 1.5 years ago...

Yea they fixed it

they had the car for about 10.5 hours..with no loner

i have the scion security
i think thats wat did it
because my lights would only turn off when the hatch was opened.

**they only way i figured it out, is because my car would make the "your keys in the ignition beep" when the keys were in the ignition and the hatch was opened...
**

and one day i was like hmm...so i did it and the turned off

i told the dealer and they thought i was crazy...
so i showed them...
they thought the car was crazy

so they has a Toyota Tech come down from Houston, TX
and well he fixed it
and now im happy

thanks and glad yours got fixed too

So it was determined that they wired the doors wrong when they put in Scion Security? It’s nice to know that Toyota hires competent Techs that double check their work before sending it out the door…….

Why I don't go to the dealer. Free oil isn't worth it.
