AVIC-XX Side Gap Solution
Alright everyone, I installed an AVIC-D2 a week or two ago with the help of information I found on this board. Everything went surprisingly well with a few little setbacks, none major. At the end of the night I had a working system minus the reverse wire (couldn't find it and don't seem to need it for anything) and I was pretty happy. The only problem I had is that I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to mount the Scosche gap filling kit to take up the space on the sides. I tried it many ways and couldn't make it look good - I'm still waiting for an explanation from someone around here. Anyway, in some thread someone noted that they used the trim ring that comes with the unit and just modified it to fit. I can't find the post but I decided to try it. I used my dremel to cut off half of the top and bottom - cutoff bit to cut the plastic, then one of the little sanding bits to clean it up. I cut right outside the clips that hold it on. What do you know? It fits pretty darn good! I did a half decent job but the cuts aren't that straight - when installed you really can't see it. I just thought I'd post to tell people they can save a little time and money and just use the included trim ring which would otherwise be trash.
Now if I could just figure out how to get rid of the radio door squeak that developed during installation, I'd be all set!
