Actually now that I think about it, it could easily be made with all components behind the display. There's really no need for a full size ATX motherboard, considering it doesn't need any more than 2 PCI slots and 1 AGP/PCI-E slot, HDD's are small enough to just mount somewhere (although shock from the vehicle hitting bumps could be an issue), could just take a DVD drive out of a slim PS2...Only thing I wouldn't have a clue with, would be the power .

Agreed. The embedded market is just blowing up, and this thing is horrifically overpriced for what it does.

Personally, I'd rather have an SSD 20GB for the OS and a place to plug in a USB 2.0/3.0/Firewire 1.8" or 2.5" drive, so I can sync my media at the PC, and carry it from vehicle to vehicle. They've already shown 500+GB laptop drives at CES.

I mean, if this kit is at 2.5K, imagine what any DIYer on SL can charge for a kit that is future proof and modifiable! There's a ton of space behind the HU to put this kind of system together, *and* ensure that when components become smaller, faster, and cooler-running you can upgrade without dropping another 2.5K.

Check out http://www.chinavasion.com to see how much these components cost. I've used their site to import stuff from HK, and it's great quality.
