anyone know a failsafe way to pop these out? im in the process of painting my interior and so far ive been very successful minus a few mishaps like taking advice from people who have and havent done it - anyways, i need to pop the cupholders out so i can paint them but i cant figure out how to get them out w/o ripping up the door

my advice if you do this is...

1. DO NOT sand, if you do get the lightest grit possible and even then i dont recommend it...i only did it on one piece that wasnt very big, but everything else i just painted over a base coat and finished with a gloss and it looks GOOD!
2. if you paint the door handles be as careful as possible, YOU WILL break the door panels off because of the way it was put on, the clip (on mine at least) was melted after being installed to the door, but it fits back onto the door like it was never removed, but my suggestion is go to your nearest Scion dealer and order spare door handle panels, paint and replace - thats what i did

ill post up some more tips as i finish

 

you have to take out the bottom of the backseats (just pull up from the front and pull out (pull up hard on the front to pop it out of the clips)) then you take out this black panel clip for each side of the panel that has the cupholder, and just pull out the entire panel cupholder is part of the panel, you have to mask off and paint, good luck!
