You want sound quality (SQ) or do you want SPL (thump)

JL W7..best sub on the market you can get it in 13 1/2''. 12'' or 10'' only down side is weight..a 13inch W7 is over 75 lbs i think. This sub is insane to say the least.

Alpine Type-X is prolly the second..they make them in 12's and 10's

and JL W6 is prolly the 3rd best out there

You can get the JL's in selaed or ported boxes but i suggest a sealed box because of the size of the ported ones. If your gettin a sub of this quality in a hatch back your only gonna need one or you could very easily have to much bass. Make sure if you get a sub of this quality that you can an amp that power it fully or else you'll be wasting money on the sub.
if you listen to a lot of rap/hip-hop get a 12 and cause a lot of the bass is artificial and it will hit much harder

I saw a Sub called the jackhammer it was a 22 inch sub that weighed over 350 pounds. It was just insane. But i wouldnt put it in a tC because it would mess with the horsepower to weight ratio way too much.

Wasn't that on "Pimp My Ride"?

Anyway, my vote goes with any of the JL W7 Series... I have the 10 W7 and when someone is in my car, they think I have 2 12's. I open the trunk up and they are shocked it's only a single 10.

Good luck.

the jackhammer is a pos it takes to long to flex so its not relay good for spl or for sq its more just to show off

but depending on how mutch you have to spend and what you want

jl w6 is almost as good as the w7 and is a decent amount cheaper

also a sound stream tarantula is cheap as hell and we have a 10" out hitting a 12" kicker solo x so you know they can hit

if you want more recomendations i can make a huge list if you want

but more importantly why has this not been moved yet??? come on mods get with the program lol or ummmm make me a mod and ill move it

I just did some audio work on my xB and I am a complete noob.
Here are my specs.

Alpine CDA-9853
Diamond Audio D3400.4
Stock door speakers.

250watt bazooka amp that I bought on ebay for $21.
10" dual voice coil bazooka tube in back.

Sounds awesome. I keep the sub setting on 5 of 15 and get PLENTY of thump. I was going to change my stock speakers but they sound really good. They were just underpowered.

Again I am just a noob but I spent about $600 and have a great sounding car.

I'll be rocking a JL 12w3v2 D$ in my tC, pushed by a 350wRMS at 4ohm Kicker amp (wanted the JL 500/1 mono, but alas, couldn't find a steal). Should be more than enough to rock the base and have fun. Not competition fun, but loud enough for most people.

JL i would say a probably one of the top ones for subs, however I think for the most bang for the buck, I myself would go with Kicker Solo Baric...
Now the question is whats the best amp to power these subs?

Right now Im running with the Resonant Engineering XXX. This is by far the best sub I have ever heard (and yes I have heard the 13W7). Just remember that whatever you decide on pay attention to your install. You can make a crappy sub sound awesome with the right install and you can make a great woofer sound like crap with the wrong install!!

After listening to a few setups at some stereo shops, I decided on a single 10" Boston G5 powered by a JL 500/1. My goal was superb accuracy with an overall effect of 'felt not heard.'

i just put in a diamond audio d6 10". the thing sounds great. it's 500w rms and 1000w peak. my amp is pushing about 460w rms. the thing sounds sweet-i'm getting ready to add 2 more of them into the trunk where the spare tire is.
