Don't you have the owner's manual for them? If not, you can get it from Alpine's website, like I just did.

Sealed: .75 - 1.5 cu.ft., 1.0' gross is "optimal" per Alpine, but that results in an F3 of 40Hz with a Q of .91, so I'd go with a bit bigger box to get the Q closer to .7, which would result in less boominess and a flatter response.

Ported: 1.35 cu.ft. gross internal volume, port 11"x1.25" with 22" length, per Alpine's owner's manual for the SWE-1043D.

Well, do you know what the specs of your current enclosure is, the internal volume and port dimensions? It could be that they're already in an optimal (per Alpine) ported enclosure, as that'd be a fairly big box, 2.7 cu.ft. internal volume for the 2 subs together.

When you say you're looking for more response, do you mean more volume/louder bass? What amp are you using and how is it configured? Ported is likely already giving you more bass than a sealed design would, and making a larger or smaller ported box probably wouldn't result in any additional output. You could go with a bandpass enclosure, as that would give a bit louder bass, but there are trade-offs for that design too (as there are for ported & sealed), such as an even larger enclosure requirement. Doubling your amp power could give you 3 to 6 dB more SPL, but might not produce the desired bang for the buck.

Sounds like everything is fairly optimal now, the only way to get more bass would be to do a bandpass box, add more subs or go with a totally different setup. Screw other people's comments (especially things like "oh you need a sealed box", when they don't provide a rational argument for such), if you're happy with it, their opinion doesn't matter.
