Default A/C Clicking Noises

Ok so I turned my car on this morning and for some reason my A/C was on, which it normally isn't. I started hearing a clicking noise coming from under the dash on the passenger seat, it is kind of a winding clicking noise that starts up and shuts down with the A/C.

The A/C works just fine but that clicking noise is annoying as hell, any suggestions on what it could be?

hmmm... i know that when the a/c compressor on the tC is dying, the flow of the refridgerant makes an odd noise as it flows through the a/c box behind the glove box

a clicking? i'd say that you should have the system examined, makes me think something is going with the compressor. can you hear it if you are outside of the car, listening in the engine bay?

you know i just wondered if it could be the drivebelt tensioner. Others of us with the tC have had it go bad, and some of us had it make noise when you turned on the a/c. Raeason? the tension of the belt changes when the a/c is engaged. That can make a click click click or clack clack clack noise too.

Have to get closer to the engine and find out if the noise is from the a/c compressor. or the tensioner. The tensioner is in the middle of the area where the drivebelt is. Just be careful that belt could grab clothing and pull you in. so be careful when playing around that area.

hmm thanks for the input fellas,

Hoodie it is pretty damn audible from the outside, more so than from the inside of the car :/

As far as where its coming from, it seems like it is coming from the upper left corner of the engine bay, haven't really seen too much into it because I left for work right after typing this up

unfortunately theres nothing i can really check there though because i took my A/C out. lol
