Default Camera Mount

Well decided to try and make a camera mount for the car last Friday....my goal was to do this cheap, but still make it solid, and race legal. Here is what I cam up with.

I had a spare aluminum handle from a range laying around so I thought it would be perfect

1) Most ball mounts I see online are between $35-$150, well since I wanted it NOW, I went scouting at Circuit City, and found this little baby.....and the best part.....$14.99!!!

2) After looking at it in the store I determined that the little ball mount detaches!!!!

3) After Circuit City I headed over to Home Depot, to get some hardware and washers

4) Layed out where I wanted the holes for the u-bolts to go

5) Drilled the holes

6) Drilled the hole in end cap for ball mount to attach to

7) Mounted the bar to passenger head rest

Installed end cap

9)Attached ball mount

10)Attached camera

The View

For a first go round I was pretty happy with it, after testing it I will probably play with the layout a little and try some different mounting locations

TOTAL COST: $19.97

I did get to test it out this weekend at the time attack event, I will upload the video this afternoon

Dude!! Now that's pretty flippin' sweet!! Nice innovation with the parts you had.
Hey! Don't call it "cheap", call it "frugal". I do.

Very sturdy and really does not vibrate at all, I will get the video at the track up here this afternoon and you can see for yourself. The other nice thing is that I can still adjust the seats, and get in and out of the back seats. The camera actually positioned so that is is just behind the drivers seat right shoulder(cant really tell that from pictures)so no worries of hitting it with your head/helmet or shoulders!

Here is a video of the 5 pace laps at the Time Attack event at Nashville Superspeedway this past weekend...

BEWARE this a BIG FILE and no editiing, so probably best to download it then watch it.

I have the CruiseCam mount and I get a lot of vibration doing autox. It's mostly b/c the seatback/headrest vibrate a little and that transfers through the camera mount to the camera and I end up with more of it. I'm working on a couple fixes... but it's really the same type of mount.

I really don't get much vibration through that one, and on the video that is posted I took the ball mount out all together and just ran an allen screw with some rubber & nylon washers....which is probably how I will run it from now on. So that brings the cost down even more....LOL
