Default Can an 06 Head Unit w/ iPod be installed in an 05 tC?

If this has already been addressed let me know.. i searched and didn't see anything.

Basically I own a 2005 tC. For Christmas I (and my girlfriend) got iPods. I now want to listen to it in my car. So I can either spend $100ish on a FM transmitter/charger combo, or spend [a lot] more and get a new head unit to plug it in.

I wouldn't mind spending the money at all if I can buy the new 2006 head unit with the iPod and aux controls. Of course my 05 tC doesn't have a place for those inputs. So my question is, is it possible to get the 06 head unit installed, and the iPod and aux plugs put in the car? Or no? And how expensive would that be to accomplish, especially if a dealer did it? I know the head unit goes for about $250.

Thanks guys.

Well, I do care about the price, but I'm more interested in if it can physically be done. Since the 06 tC seems to have a different setup on the center console than the 05.

The ipod head unit does NOT go for $260 unless you are buying it as a factory upgrade with the purchase of a new 06 tC.

You aren't doing that, so the ipod headunit will cost between $430 - $500 depending on where you buy it. That does NOT include installation. The 06 head unit will not work in an 05 because the 05 does not have a necessary pre-wired harness that the 06 has. The head unit would work for radio and CD, but NOT for playing the ipod.

Many of us are in the same situation -- we have 06 ipod head units but pre-06 vehicles without that harness and Scion doesn't sell the harness. So basically, you would have to find a donor 06 tC willing to give you their harness ... otherwise no, there is no easy way to play an ipod on an 06 head unit in an 05 vehicle.

p.s. -- for more info, do a search, as there are threads on this same topic posted every day or so.
