You guys were such a great help before... but i need more help.

Anyways, I have choice between aftermarket or stock alarm system.

The company's stock is 550 bucks...
Is it cheaper to get a decent car alarm outside? If so, what alarm system do you suggest?

 

i have Phantom, most people have Viper. They are from the same company.
You can definitely find a better alarm than from Toyota.

 

I've installed a few alarms in my time, either Hornet, Python, or Viper and Phantom. All are from a company called DEI. Better known as Directed. They make great products and for 550 bucks, you can get an Alarm/Keyless/Remote Start that pages you up to 1 mile away. I am using the Python 990. I would never buy that 550 dollar OEM POS.

 

awesome. do i buy the alarm from the company or somewhere and take it to the shop?
or go to a shop and buy the alarm there and have them install it?
or it is easy enough to install it myself?

 

if you have never done an alarm before i wouldnt recommend you try. you could easily pop an airbag by accident. i would just go to best buy and get the viper alarm that best suits your needs and have them install it. i think the installs are free now. not sure though.

 

do not get the company's stock one because it's not worth that price, if it was like 100 then it's ok but i used to work for a dealer installing alarms and they are really cheap alarms too.

 

what places i can get the alarm installed?

best buy is an option.

 

I don't know if you have CarToys around you, but they sell Clifford alarms which are the same as Viper. They install professionally.

 

I have an aftermarket Hornet and I love it. It even had autostart - it totally rocks!

 

I have an prestige with remote start and alarm pager.
