Default Component Systems and Amplifiers

Now that I've finished turbocharging my car, I'm looking to upgrade my audio since I'm a music freak. In the past, I've had pretty sub par systems in my car and am looking to do this right which is why I've brought my questions here rather than to a salesman anywhere else. That being said, I'm looking to get a 6.5" component system for the front of my tC ASAP and further down the road (maybe), a set of 5.25" for the rear. The stock head unit will work for now until I start making some of my money back and I have the crappy Bazooka sub (a terrible purchase) which will get upgraded later on so for now I guess what I'm looking at is replacing stock speakers and getting an amp powerful enough to make them sound great. When I change my sub, I'll get a separate amp. I've read a lot about Elemental Designs on the forum and I'm very impressed. Also, I've been looking at this particular system with great interest: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Ctw55kf...00&I=107DB6500

My questions are as follows:
How does the Polk system I referenced above compare to any of the products at Elemental Designs, ie sound quality, power, etc.?

What size amp would I need to get the most out of a component sytem in the front and a set of 5.25" in the rear? I'm guessing a 4 channel amp, but outside of that I'm clueless.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm not the most knowledgable person when it comes to car audio. Thanks.

use the search i'm pretty sure this exact question came up about a week ago.

but i'll answer anyway. nine.2 if your just doing the front and that will be more than enough power to the comps if your doing a rear fill do a nine.4 as wel.

Subs i'd go ed you can go stealth (eu700's) or you can go stupid and get 19ov.2's talk to chris (mandos) and he'll basically set you up with anything you want and he can make you a box if you want too

So a nine.2 if I go for just the front or a nine.2 + a nine.4 for the front and rear?

Typically I search first and look in the first few pages of the forum, but I'll dig back further for that post. Thanks for the help!

not exactly. you'll need a nine.2 if your just running front and ONLY a nine.4 if your doing the front + back.

i'd recommend the ed[i]6500's. they're awesome and a front fill is all you really need

Nine.2 on front.

If you want rear fill, leave them running off the HU.

Wow, interesting. So even if I change my rear speakers, you would recommend that I run them straight from the HU. Wouldn't the front speakers overpower the rears and create unbalanced sound within the car or do you feel that the front speakers typically drive the sound? I know in my old Camry, my 6x9's in the rear seemed to drive the sound, but maybe the tC is different since they use smaller speaker sizes.

If an amp like the Nine.2 on the front will help generate quality sound and good power for me to enjoy my music at whatever volume I should choose, then I'm sold on that type of setup; front and rear fill with a 2 channel amp hooked up to the front speakers only.

Also, why do you recommend the Nine.2 over the Nine.2X? Too much power for component speakers?

Nine.2 is good enough for just about any component set, unless it needs a whole lot more

The idea of rear fill is just that, something that fills in the rear a little.

Your car != surround sound. Unless you have a 5.1 HU and all your music recorded as such I personally thing it's a waste to amplify rear speaker.

Do you go to a concert and turn your back on them?

I hope not

Stereo = right and left, no rears.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I don't like rear fill. My car = 6500s + Nine.2 and that's it.

Well, if you want to eventually end up with a 5.1 HU, then you might as well get a Nine.4 now and be ready later.

I think I'm going to probably end up buying 2 component sets and 2 amps, but I can't afford to do it all at once. I want all of my gear to be from the same vendor (eD) because mixing and matching looks goofy.

All I can suggest is DO NOT BUY FROM CRUTCHFIELD. I recommend www.sonicelectronix.com for anything and everything you need.

$60 cheaper. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_6991.html

I got the polk momo components in the front and rear powered by a jl audio 300/4. Sounds pretty good to me. And I got it all off eBay. Saved a ton of money that way.
