Well I'm bringing my stereo back to stock and I have a problem. I did the wiring the hard way and cut the plugs off the wires. My problem is, I cut the wires too close to the plug to be able to wire back to the stock plugs. Anyone have any ideas how I can get outta this one? Maybe someone has their stock plugs with a little more wire on em that they'd like to send me for a small fee??? :D I'd love you forever if you can help me out..

 

You could also try a salvage yard. Cut the harness with as much wire as possible, solder the replacement connectors onto your factory harness, tape the bundle together, and everything will appear and function normally. Nobody would know anything had been altered without untaping the harness.

 

ahh awesome, i forgot about the junkyards. have a wedding to go to tomorrow so the project is gonna have to wait til sunday. are junkyards open on sundays? lol

Probably not. But its worth calling around to find out. They may have extended hours on other days.

 

That could be the correct harness, but its hard to tell from the picture. Actually, I did something similar to what you did. I managed to reuse the plugs but the connection was iffy. Make sure it has a good connection.

 

Yeah, it just says "wire harness" under instrument panel on the site. only 15 bucks but I doubt someone would sell just the plugs for the stereo on its own.

 

Pick-your-part yards sell about anything on the car. Also, harnesses from xA and xB models with similar head units could work.

Metra makes a harness with those plugs. Check your local audio shops, Circuit City, etc.

awesome man, so that's the exact one in the link u posted? That'll be much easier than trying to solder the little nubs.

n/m that link i posted for a sec, wrong kind of harness. Now do the colors of the wire match up with the factory colors? or am I gonna be having to look at the stock pins to make sure everything lines up right?

 

well i bet you dont hard wire like that any more....haha a lil patients goes a ways... anyways salvage yards are good but Id source it from a dealership

 

I actually called my dealership and all they could offer me was the entire instrument panel harness for a few hundred bucks. not lookin to spend that kinda $$

well i tried a bunch of local shops today and no one has a harness that will help me. looks like all i can do is try to solder extensions to it. wish me luck.

 

Good luck! If you are not comfortable with soldering, try some of those Posi-Lock connectors. Or crimp-on style conectors. I think there might be just enough room for a decent connection.

I wouldn't have a problem with soldering if this soldering gun wasn't from the 1960s

 

buy a new one

 

Go to radio shack and buy the pin connectors that fit those plugs. Pull those wires out (write down the coloring first).
Put the pins on the wires in the car and plug them into those plugs.
They will be really tinny pins that attach to the wire then clip into the white harness inside.
