Default Crazy 8s

So who has done them? For the initiated crazy 8s is when you take 1 8" subwoofer and try to get it as loud as possible!

I am looking in that direction but slightly in a different aspect as not saying "being the loudest" but the just to be different again.
I am currently running a 15" sub right now in a ported box, so overall the box is HUGE. I just realized that lately I haven't even turned my stereo up loud at all. The gain on the amp is at about 40% and before the subout on the HU I have it set at 0, then it moved to -2, then -4, now -6 the lowest I can go w/o turning the gain down even lower.

The novelty wore off with the 15". Now I am looking into the 8" world! Currently looking at the Kicker L7 8inchers. The only problem with that if I get only 1 is that my amp will be to powerful for it. My RFT10001BD amp puts out roughly 700/1000/1500watts at 4/2/1 ohms respectively, according to its birthsheet. The 8" L7 can handle 400rms/800max. But I have read some people burp with those things at like 1500watts. Apparently those little boogers can handle the power and at the same time get very very loud, I have read in some cases of people doing 140+db.

Another sub I am looking at is the Crystal Comp 8s. I heard those guys like to get loud and low too.

All in all my final goal is to do a smaller sub, get loud, get low, and GAIN my TRUNK SPACE back, and spare tire, and hopefully get a usable trunk again.

So who has experience?

If everything goes as plan, I will have a 15" FiCarAudio fully loaded BL will be for sale soon...

Damn, already done with that FI?! If I hadn't just ordered a new box I would be all over that thing!! Good luck with the 8.

I have the 8" TC-1000 sub. Got a pair in a vented box. Its ridiculously loud for an 8. Wish I could get a DB score for you but I don't have access to a db meter. I also have a pair of 8" Elemental Designs 9kv.2 which I've read on the web can do 140 in a ported.

a pair of 8's can get loud for sure, in the right box with the right power i could see 140+ no problem. i'm getting 134.1 at the dash car all sealed up on the new TL with one ten off 780watts. it seems way louder with the windows and roof open though.

Yeah I get bored easily!! LOL

Yeah the more I read about 8s the more crazy it sounds! Also with 2 8" subs ported to like ~34hz the box will be less than 2.0cuft after displacement. The one guy I read he had a box built for 2 L7s 8" and it was 1.66cuft, so it can be a small box.

I'm still trying to do research on SnailShell enclosures....they are a well kept secret for what they are.
Check out this website...:

It was originally a dual 10" enclosure and only temporary, but I liked how it sound

This is sort of like an ABC (aperiodic bi-chamber) box that uses a TL and ports rather then chambers and ports. Feel free to google search them, and debunk the snail shell...

I hate to bust your bubble, but they really aren't near as special as their marketing claims. Enclosures are all about compromise between output, low end extension, small size, power handling.

I've tried this kind of thread in other forums and this is as much feedback as you'll ever get. The subs that were suggested to me were: SoundSplinter rli8, Elemental Designs 9kv.2, Digital Designs, TangBang, Audioque, Image Dynamics, and some more that I can't remember. Out of those I purchased and tried out Elemental Designs 9kv.2, Rockford Fosgate P1, Kicker CVR8, Image Dynamics id8, and the 8" TC Sounds. In the end, I chose the TC-1000s, because they can be had for $149 each, handle 400-1000watts rms, they have a muscular weight of 17.8lbs due to its large motor structure, has a sexy aluminum cone, 24mm of Xmax, numerous positive reviews all over the web, and when I finally heard them, they outperformed every 10"and a few 12" subs I've ever heard.

Yeah I was looking at that TC-1000 8" subs doesn't look to bad at all. If I were to get the Dual 4ohm version the sub will see approx 1000watts@2ohm. Will that be safe for daily? I wish the made a dual 2ohm version so then I can run it at 4ohm for daily (~700watts) and wire it for 1ohm (1500watts) for burps. Most of all the 8inchers I see is a single vc at 4ohms.

Have you ever metered your 8" TC?
I watched your video over in cardomain, man those subs move!!

I have read all over termpro for info already.

Does TCsounds have their stuff in stock ready to ship or they build it on a case by case basis? How long did it take for you to receive your TC-1000 from them?

I'm also eying up the DDAudio 1508 too...

I have 2 Dual 4 ohm versions and they are looking at 1200watts @ 1ohm (600each) from my ED NINe.1 amp. I did have to adjust the gain accordingly since TC Sounds recommends around 400watts rms each.

I think 1000watts into one of these is too much. If you were gonna get the 12" or 15" version then it would be ok but we're talking only an 8".

I have not metered my 8s but have been on the lookout. Been calling every stereo place in the Seattle area but no luck so far. I'll post it if I do get it metered.

I also read that ED had an 8incher like years ago that they only produced like a limited amount of them and it was a killer. Supposedly that can handle 1000watts daily....

wow, I haven't heard those rumors before. You got any links???
They did announce a newly released SPL sub and an increase in prices coming in a few weeks. Don't know if its related in some way to those rumors.
