I dismissed the Kicker L7 because the price of those when new and from an authorized dealer is $249.99. Compare that to Sound Splinters and TC-1000s which can be had for 149.99. Elemental Designs 9kv.2 can be had for $70, Image Dynamics id8s for $99, and Ascendant Audio Assassins 8" for 99. Now if you're going for the name and looks, those Kicker L7s would fit the bill. If you want performance that is equal or maybe better and would cost $100 or more less then go with these other brands.
I'll try too, but all the brands you mentioned they don't have out here. They just got kicker, rockford fosgate, alpine, pioneer, mtx, sony, eclipse, cerwin vega, jl audio, jbl, bazooka, I think thats it..

Well all the ones you mention is all "mainstream" products. Its like when people hear my sub and they are like "wow" what do you have in there a JL Audio sub or something like that. I would be like no, I have a Fi sub, and then they would be like WTF! LOL
A lot has to do with trial and error. I never heard a Fi sub in person but I read what people wrote about it and what people thought about it and I was sold just by reading peoples reviews. Before the Fi sub I had a Resonant Engineering sub, that too I bought w/o hearing it first hand but just reading about it I was sold too. Between the Fi and RE, nothing can compare to it, before those two subs, I had JL, RF, Alpine, and a few other mainstream subs, and have listened to a fair share of subs. Nothing can compare to the Fi and RE I had so far. So the Sound Splinter I will go with the RL-i8, just reading about it I was sold too, so those subs will be my next project. I've done 10", 12" and my current 15", haven't done 18" or 8" ...so the 8s will be fun I hope.

mainstream=more cost.
RE is soon coming along, they got bought out by US AMPS and now their prices are at least 2-3x the original price now. When I got the 12" RE SX I paid $200 for it, now its like $499 MSRP.
However JL Audio was once non-mainstream too, way back in the day.
I guess it all depends on company as to who wants to go big or want to keep it small and simple to help out all the enthusiasts.
At the same time small companies have trouble keeping up with supply and demand, if they can keep up by hiring more people that means prices for the product will go up also. Look at the company I bought my sub from,I had to wait 3 weeks for it, and it is all hand assembled.
So whatever floats your boat!

When my buyer comes through for my 15" i will go with the RL-i8. The L7 can get very loud but apparently it isn't as musical as the RL-i8. The only thing is that the RL-i8 Dual 4ohm is on backorder right now....But yeah Matt go with what you feel like or whichever is cheaper.
Like I said so far I've read that the L7 can get very very loud, but not as musical as the RL-i8. G/L

By the way, the TC-1000 8" sub is very similar in performance to the RL-i8 - made in the same company, same magnet, different cone (black paint vs. brushed aluminum) and different basket color (silver vs. black). Its also in stock right now if you're itching to buy the sub
i have a Kicker L7-8 in a custom box that takes up less space than the bazooka (pass side trunk behind the brake light) i have 500RMS on it. rap, rock, classical...the sub handles it all (.65 cubic foot box)
