Default Deadened + sealed doors... with a few pics inside

well i ordered some v1se from Chris(Mandos) over at Elemental Designs. he was very very helpful, i got 30 sq ft of the v1se and also got 1 sq ft of the V4. i did the passenger side first then when i got to the drivers side i figured i'd take some pics to show you guys. so the pics explain the rest....

ok first a pic of the door without the door skin or plastic liner(you can kinda see the deadener on the outer panel in this pic).

used the 1 sq ft of V4 for behind the speakers in sort of a checker board design(thanks chris)

with the giant holes covered up(one with just the sheetmetal and the other covered with the deadener.

with some more deadener applied(almost done)

a final shot before putting the door skin back on

i used some deadener on the outer skin not a lot but tried to cover as much as possible(not a whole lot should be needed on the outer panel. then i covered all the gaping holes in the door panel with some sheetmetal and self tapping screws. then applied a good layer of deadener to the inner panels covering up the panel and the sheetmetal that i added. then went back and covered some areas with a second layer where i thought could use it. i still have a small amount left so i am going to go back to the passenger side and add a little more.

overall deadening and sealing the doors yields awesome( actually insane) results. the midbass now is very extreme and i'm still using the stock speakers just with a pioneer DEH-7800MP powering them. before i couldn't turn the high pass filter to anything lower than 80hz and still have it sound decent.

now i have the high pass set at 63 and am actually able to boost by +2 at 80hz, +1 at 125 and 200hz. the midbass is really really there now. when i play something that has strong double bass kicks i really feel it on my legs. it feels like i have little subwoofers in the doors

so i highly recommend doing this if you want some more SQ and midbass. any questions or concerns feel free to ask, or comment. thanks.

I put about 90 feet in my xB (doors, floor, roof, everywhere really) and the results are fantastic. The guys at eD make an outstanding product, and it isn't very expensive.

Very nice work! I may do that to my wife's tC next.

thanks. i am still in awww at the amount of midbass i am getting out of the stock speakers. it's so sweet, i have the crossover on the fronts set at 63hz, the backs at 80hz and the sub at 63hz. i even tried the sub crossed at 50hz and the whole system still sounded great and didn't seem to have a big empty gap. while listening to most rock/metal it sound like the subbass is in front of me now. it's not as easy to localize the subwoofer anymore.

i highly recommend this for anybody looking for better midbass, midrange and overall better SQ. the best bang for your buck audio mod is deadening(well at least when the stuff is a inexpensive as ED charges)!

Excellent job, man. It looks really well done and clean. How thick was the sheet metal you used?

What are the foam blocks in the door for? Is it cheap deadening on Toyotas part or there another purpose?

there used to be some on the door panels. i had to remove them. when i went to put the first door skin back on i realized that it won't work with the holes in the panel being covered up. so i had to remove them. i would imagine they are there for crash pretection. like the foam behind the from bumper, and rear bumper.

the metal is the "flashing" i guess they call it that are used on roofs and siding and such. it's not crazy thick but thick enough to be solid(especially when covered with the v1se), and not so thick wher it's hard to form and work with.

honestly i haven't even listened yet. i can't stop popping cd's in and listening to them with all the new midbass i now have. lol. i'll let ya know once i can control my volume **** but i'm sure it helped. it had to of.

i know when i tap on my rear quarter panel/fender it makes a normal high pitched ringing sound, but when i tap on the doors they made a nice deep thud. they are definitely dead.

That's how it should be done, by the way, for anyone who wants to deaden their car. You should wrap your knuckles on any surface that sounds tinny or hollow and deaden the hell out of it. In my xB, some sections in the trunk required several layers before it stopped sounding tinny.

You need to drive above sixty and let us know. I was wondering with all the glass if it makes a difference - it's like standing in a wind tunnel when you sit in the back seat of the tC.

Yes and no.

You will definitely notice the noise isn't coming from below you anymore.

The limiting factor in dampening a tC that you're going to drive on the highway is the roof. I tried doing a before and after SPL test but since I wasn't thinking while doing the before and I had the meter pointed at the roof(it was a cheapo radioshack).

Overall dropped maybe 1 dB if I was lucky, but if you drive a stock tC then mine, it's definitely noticable.

If you're going to do SPL tests, don't base them on pointing at the roof

i finally have done a lil driving at highway speeds, around 60-70. the road noise seems to be a lot less. i hear no noises coming from directly beside me. there is still road noise from the firewall and the rear quarter panels/fenders obviously. the rear quarters will be the next thing i deaden. but the doors are really quiet now.
