Eclipse AVN5435 not working. Need help!!
I just installed the Eclipse AVN5435 in my car with the two molex connectors and ground that came from the stock head unit. I also plugged in the GPS antennae and placed it on my dashboard. I let it boot up for the first time as normal, but when I hit Menu, everything is greyed out except for POI Name.. Are any of the other wires coming out of the Eclipse HU required? I was wondering if it might be because the parking break signal is not connected?
I've been looking around in scion forums and other forums, and a lot of ppl have said they got it fine working without having to ground the parking break wire or any other wire... i was thinkin possibly the newer batch of the 5435's require u to plug in the parking break wire...
I just jumped in my car again, and I finally got a GPS signal and the Navi updated to my location.. I can still only access POI, everything else is greyed out..
If I ground the parking break, will that un-grey all the options? I am now wondering if I do splice the parking break, will everything work (Setup, DVD, inputting addresses, etc.) as I drive. If not, I might have everything professionally done..

I finaly connected the parking break wire to a screw on the chassis near behind the glove box...I've read that many people have hooked up the HU without connecting the VSS (Speed signal wire) and reverse wire... I haven't connected those two yet and was wondering if that is the problem why auto-reroute and voice guidance is not working. Both are "ON" in setup. Any ideas?
that is definitely the problem since you're not connecting the speed wire. with the speed wire the unit will know how fast you're going and determine your location easier and faster..
yes this is correct so why in the world is the check engine light coming on I am connecting it to wire #17(voilet) and it is doing this
any ecu guru's or installers???
everything works expect like described above by Nu-Nu

krazie1: There have been many posts all over these forums telling people to splice different wires for the speed signal. Some said to do it on a red wire by the driver's kick panel, another said to splice an orange wire going into the center console (heater, A/C, clock, etc), and yet another said to connect it to pin #17 on the 2nd ecu plug from the top. I don't know which is correct but I looked it up in Scion's Repair Manual and Greddy's site. So far it looks like it's the 2nd plug from the top going into the ECU at pin #17 (purple wire). There are no other wires connected in the adjacent pins.
As for the reverse, it's slightly in front (and to the right) of the ECU on the passenger kick panel. You'll see a grey plug and then a white plug in front. It is the white plug. If you are sitting in the passenger seat, the correct wire is in the corner closest to you (bottom left if you were to look down from over top), which is a pink wire.
I still haven't spliced those two as i'm only 90% sure that those are the two correct wires and I want to be 100% sure that they are correct. Can anyone confirm with documentation or pictures?
One thing I've also wanted to state. I think those red splicers that Eclipse supplied are too big for the gauge wire (VSS, reverse). The parking/reverse/VSS wire coming from the head unit (HU) is a little bigger so I dont' know how good the contact is with the red splicer provided.
Also, has anyone else not had their auto-reroute and voice guidance not work because the VSS and reverse wires are not connected? And then had it work after they were spliced?

So I guess I'm not the only one having the problem.. there are quite a few people having problems with voice guidance and auto-reroute for the AVN5435.. the VSS wire is connected to pin #17 (purple wire) of the 2nd plug from the top of the ECU... some have said that the HU is not expecting a square wavelength but something else...
Has anyone successfully connected the Eclipse AVN5435 to their car and had the voice guidance and auto re-route work? If so, please reply, and leave any tips or advice....
